Do you have experience with Thyroid meds ?

Hi again...(apologies for the title - I couldn't resist to "tweak" my own ear when I saw how many threads and posts there were on this....:o)

Ok, the following threads highlight Bacca's various health issues over the last year. And buried in one of them are details of his test results and updates after various remedial treatments.

It's been a long year, but beyond the fact that Bacca's face still appears a little lopsided, there are no issues with this pup. He seems to have responded well to both his liver and thyroid meds, but is going for a check up and probably new blood work in the next few weeks.

Cedar was on Thyroxine for hypothyroidism.
 
I really appreciate everyone responding to my question. It makes me feel more comfortable having some info. about these meds before putting Gypsy on them.

Barb thanks for taking the time to link those threads for me.I was trying to read through alot of your posts but not knowing when everything started I was winging it and going through ones I thought might have info.

I think it all started May/June last year....and it wasn't until Oct/Nov that everything was diagnosed.
 
thyroxine is appear to be generic fo soloxin. In my adult human patients I hear over and over again that generic thyroids are not a good substitute for brand name. If I were you I would stick with Soloxine for the reason it is common proven brand with stability and price wise you can find reasonable choices.

Thyroxine: Abbreviated T4, is a hormone made by the thyroid gland. T4 and other thyroid hormones help regulate growth and control the rate of chemical reactions (metabolism) in the body.

Soloxine is a brand name of levothyroxine. Levothyroxine is the synthetic form of thyroxine. The generic brand of Soloxine is called L-Thyroxine.

We have soloxine at the clinic I work at. A previous clinic had generic levothyroxine. Both seemed to work fine as long as you didn't switch brands midstream after they were regulated. That's when we notcied problems.
 
Callie has been on soloxine for almost as long as I have had her. she takes a half a pill in the morning and half at night. she did have a change at her last exam- went from blue pills to pink pills- I think it was actually a step down in the amount. she has always been twice a day- and if I forget to give her the pill, she reminds me about it :winkgrin:

That's funny chandler always tells me it's time for his 2nd dose of meds for the day also. Smart smart shelties.:yes:

Yes, Bacca always tells me as well....that's because he gets his pills in a yummy pill pocket, so it has become his twice daily treat! Of course, Indy lines up for his Zukes at the same time. The only time they get treats without doing anything special....they I do make them do a "sit".:wink2:
