Precious is adorable and looks just like a Sheltie should at her age. She has a great expression!
I agree with Lightplum. I wouldn't touch a hair on her body except, as you said, for trimming her feet, nails and poop chute if you do that. I would get her ears trimmed at some point though, or learn how to trim them yourself. Trimmed ears really set off their face wonderfully. Take it from one who learned the hard way though....it isn't as easy as you'd think. I still struggle with trimming ears and I'm doing show grooming.

My best advice is to find a Sheltie breeder in your area and either ask for a grooming lesson or if they'll do her ear trim and let you watch. You can check the ASSA site for breeders in your area, or you can go to a dog show and hang around the Sheltie ring. You'll meet some there, and could find one who'll help you out. Just don't talk to them before they've been in the ring. An added plus is that you'll have a really good time!
I do not advise taking her to a regular dog groomer. No matter what they tell you, they do not know how to do Shelties and your little dog will come back to you looking like a squirrel.

I did buy The Illustrated Guide to Sheltie Grooming but I haven't done anything about Marlowe's head because I actually kind of like the wild hair! I think it gives them personality (or, at least, it seems to suit Marlowe's roguish personality) but that could just be me

The squirrel comment was definitely very funny LOL but agree, I wouldn't want to do that to my baby Precious

Oh no... I just checked for the Illustrated Guide to Sheltie Grooming on amazon... Was about to check out and came up with an error saying that they do not ship to my location in ontario......... checked a few others and made it to the check out... got the same answer. I guess they don't ship to Canada... =/

My thoughts exactly... what a bummer, I have no idea why... not! : ( Definitely in the process of finding another safe place to buy it online, wish me luck!

Deska's ears look wild too so I trim and it looks much better - but the Illustrated Guide is a must have before starting.
Just want to add one thing about trimming body - sometimes they do need a bit of a trim so they dont trip over themselves. I have to do Deska's feathers and under ruff otherwise he is always stepping on his fur. But only so much to keep it out of the way.
I managed to get a copy of the Illustrated Guide shipped to Australia. Are you trying to use Amazon? You may need to try some sites directly as I often find amazon will not ship to Australia whereas another site will. Not sure why this happens but it occurs quite often so perhaps there are some limits on Amazon exporting (perhaps manufacturer/publisher agreements?)
