Does your sheltie talk?

I was having a discusion with my friend the other day about talking shelties.

I'm not talking about barking but kind of a grunting uh,uh throaty sound when they are being petted or getting attension. Between the 2 of us we have 5 shelties and 3 of them do it(Justice,Diva and her dog Pike) Ember and her dog Grizz don't. All the dogs are related except Grizz. Pike is the uncle of Justice, great uncle to Ember and Diva. Interestly Ember and Grizz are bi blue.

So we were wondering if this a sheltie triat or a family trait or maybe related to color?

Kia loves to chatter. :lol: When you are playing games with her and decide to stop and she doesn't want to it's like a little kid She's a riot !!:cool: She will Stand back look at you and sort of shake her head and kind of huff at you. If she gets no results she will move the toy closer to you move back a few steps and repeat.:lol:
 
Cleveland definately had a voice and an opinion on many subjects. McKinley, being a baby definately has a voice and let's it be heard, he is just not opinionated yet. Although the S.U.B.U has really infiltrated his mindset. Now he is claiming treats for just being so darn cute.
 
Kasey has just started doing this! Only when she's really excited or greeting someone she hasn't seen in a while.
 
Our little 9 month old Ella, talks when she wants attention. In fact all 3 of our boys and girls talk when that want something, they also get a louder talk if we ignor them, love them Shelties, Ella, Princess, Matlock.
 
Bailey talks when she wants something. Especially when she wants me or another dog to play with her.

She also likes to smack the back of my leg with her paw if I'm not moving fast enough for her. lol
 
12-year-old Markie makes a very cute "wuh-wuh-wuh" grunting sound when he's being rubbed. (He likes firm rubs along his sides and scritches in his back.)

He also "puffs" at me when I'm not getting his meal/cookie/leash quickly enough... it's sort of a sighing "huff!" and very expressive! :lol:
 
its funny my little one Mia will talk but not only making the sounds but than she will resort to moving her mouth with no sounds clicking her teeth. its hysterical to watch! now however she also has taught Noah how to do this trait its hysterical to watch him do it too...

Our Baron will "sing" when he's super excited during a game of catch. He's doing it even more these days..the older he gets! It's like a deep throated growl..that goes on and on..and he only does it when he's returned the ball to you. Tail will be wagging, head up, ball in mouth, and out comes the voice...lol We've tried to get him to do it on "command" of "sing," but so far he only does it when HE wants to do it..lol He's a bi-black. We're hoping Rookie catches on and starts it too, but so far....nope ;-). Rookie is a sable.

Our Rookie will do that "huff" too... The longer we take for what he wants...the more he'll do it. His eventually turns into a sounded bark though..
