Doxie Attack!

Yesterday, my six year old grand daughter was playing in her front yard when she was bitten on her rear end by a off lead doxie. The bad thing about this incident was the owner was walking with the dog when it bit her! The owner called the dog back and walked away. Of course, she runs inside crying that a dog had bit her. She had two small puncture wounds that were red, but not bleeding. The Sheriff was called, and they went to the owners house. He admits the dog bit her, but did not think it was a big deal, as his dog is little dog and could not have possibly done any damage. While this discussion is going on the dog snaps at the deputy. The owner is charged for leash law violation, and leaving the scene of an accident (I learned that this law applies to any accident, not just automobiles). He also has 3 days to submit to the Sheriff's office proof that the dog is current on his vaccinations, or they will impound the dog for observation. He also agreed to pay any medical bills that may occur. It amazes me that so many people think that the leash laws do not apply to them, or that their dogs could not possibly misbehave. Not too many days go by that Zulu and I do not encounter a dog that is allowed to be off leash without supervision. So far, all encounters have been friendly, but it is tiring that you must be on constant alert for ones that may not.

So sorry for the attack and I do hope that your granddtr recovers ok and doesn't have a fear of dogs. I hate SMUG, I deserve to do what I please regardless people...but isn't this the attitude of our society? Being in insurance we saw a lot of this stuff, and it is usually these types that do the most damage. Personally I am not a fan of doxie's. I grew up with an obnoxious one. My guess is the dog is not licensed, isn't current on health exams, etc. Sadly I bet the sheriff won't show mercy to the dog, and the owner obviously is an idiot.

Ditto on tesslyn's post. Guy is an idiot and the dog more then likely will be destroyed. Hopefully your grand daughter can
play in peace in her yard. If this idiot is able to keep the dog his insurance will go sky high because of this incident. For
this person to just walk away is worse then anything.

Wow. I sure hope this jerk produces proof of vaccination. In addition, does your grand daughter have tetanus (TDap) vaccination? I recently had an incident where my arm got in between my shepherd and Melli and I received a shepherd fang to the arm. Of course, last time I had tetanus shot was 6 years ago. I got updated. I have had tetanus updates every 6-7 years thanks to my Aussie girl, a cat, and now Shay.

Talked to my son today. He has not heard anything from the Sheriff, but he has not seen the dog or the owner since the incident. She had a tetanus shot earlier this year when she cut her foot at the beach. Delaney is OK, I do not think she is going to have any issues. Mom & dad have talked to her about people, dogs, and how they can be. Zulu adores her, so she is in good paws!

Good to hear Delaney is doing ok. Childhood experiences can shape so much. Sounds like she is coping well. Dogs are like people, some are wonderful, others not so much:notworthy:

What the heck did i just read? Bwho does that?! Walk away from a child being bitten without so much as an apology or are you ok?

Nothing like a Sheltie to fix a bad dog episode. Sca loves little kids.

Turns out that the dog was up to date on his vaccinations. Still no sign of the dog or the owner, so hopefully he learned a lesson. Delaney is fine, back out in her yard, like nothing happened. But I suspect she is much more aware of her surroundings.
