Thank you. Dharma is the most challenging dog I've ever had but we'll keep working with her. She has so much potential.
You know that Duncan & I keep up with Mia's adventures (and she's a hard one to keep up with). She's such a great spokesdog for double merles and dogs with "issues". I hate to even think of the word disabilities when I think of Duncan and Mia. They're so full of abilities

You can do agility with a deaf dog, my friend and Instructor runs a deaf Border Collie. She is a masters dog, you wouldn't know she is deaf, she works on visual queues only and my trainer says that dog taught her so much more and how to be a better agility handler, cuz she can't talk to the dog and therefore doesn't confuse her!! lol
She is also the friendliest, nicest dog ever. She has drive issues, believe it or not, lol. My friend calls her a broken Border Collie, in jest. OMG she really is not only nice and amazing with other dogs, she is also the prettiest dog around
Thank you Toffee's Mom! I haven't tried agility with Duncan but maybe I will. Congrats on your friends BC! I used to have a hearing border collie and they're awesome dogs. I'm glad that she's doing agility with her dog! I'll have to explore it some.
I bet he is using Gracie as a noise alarm. If she moves he needs to get up and look around to see why, pretty clever is that is the idea.
I bet having a trusted buddie in Duncan will make the difference with Dharma
I have to admit that I hadn't even thought about Duncan using Gracie as an alarm but I agree that's probably true! If he's not laying on Gracie, he's laying on my feet and he's awake the moment I move. Early alarm! Thank you!
In addition to the CGC, Vinca also has her Nov Preferred Jumpers With Weaves agility title
Vinca is our rescue girl and we got an ILP number for her from the AKC. This allows us to participate in performance events run by the AKC. It wasn't too hard to get the ILP number, and I am very happy that we did. Getting Vinca involved with agility was the best thing we ever did. It is giving her the confidence in life, and she has gained so much confidence over the years. She is a changed dog!
I just heard back from the AKC and they don't allow deaf dogs to get ILP numbers or be PAL certified.
We'll look elsewhere for further training. I'm sorry they don't allow deafies. They're missing out on a large population of awesome dogs.

UGH...another check mark in the wrong direction for the AKC. That stinks.
It does stink but that's okay. I'm not planning on stopping after we finish this class. We'll find someone to teach us more.

I am glad that you are going to continue. Agility is so much fun for the handlers and the dogs. Just be careful.....it can be addicting. There are so many other venues these days that do agility.

while AKC doesn't allow deaf dogs to compete - you should check the other venues - like NADAC for agility. I haven't looked into any of the other organizations but I did know that AKC doesn't allow that- some older dogs have had to retire because of that.
