Dylan just won't eat

I rescued Dylan about a year ago. Last week he stopped eating. I took him to the vet who told me he had a kidney and bladder infection.
He gave him an IV to flush out his kidney and he's on a couple antibiotics. My problem is that I can't get him to eat.

The vet gave me Hills KD and ID can food that Dylan won't touch. the only thing I've gotten him to eat is a little boiled chicken.

Last night he wouldn't eat the chicken, tonight I went and got some chicken broth, and different baby foods to try but still he won't touch. I did manage to hand feed him a piece of boiled chicken the size of an inch square.

He does seem to be drinking his water but he's not had a reg poop in a couple weeks and I'm getting really worried.

The vet said a bland diet and no red meat. any suggestions? I'm getting scared. Dylan is 6yrs old and should have years ahead of him. I can't figure out how this even happened.

Thanks in advance to any suggestions anyone can give.

I am so sorry to hear you are having difficulties. Did they say why he has a kidney/bladder infection? I have no idea what to suggest since he does not liek that food, have you called the vet again?

I would call my Vet again and in the mean time keep trying bland foods...maybe try rice, cottage cheese, non-fat plain yogurt, eggs??!

I want to see kidney blood values. This is what my kidney dog did. Chicken is easy on the kidneys compared to most food, which is probably why he is eating it. Make sure he gets lots of fluids, no matter what you get in him.

That was my thought. I'd call the vet again, let them know what is going on. Kidney infections can effect kidney function.

I'm going to call the vet in the morning. Thanks for your suggestions. He's eating the chicken but not much of it and he hasn't pooped in over a week just the runs. I'll update after I talk to the vet. Thanks again.

If you need to get fluids in him, try some watered down chicken broth or you can use boillion cubes diluted. They will usually drink that. Please keep us posted on how he does and good luck.

waiting for news on your baby....

poor guy, he must be feeling really badly to not want to eat.
Keep handfeeding chicken....dogs will usually eat from your hand when they aren't hungry just because they want to make you happy. I hope the vet has some more ideas for you!

Your vet needs to be notified of his condition soon. i'm no expert, but kidney infection etc..could lead to more serious problems.
Will keep Dylan in our prayers.I hope he gets better soon.Keep us posted.
