Early early morning barking

Ginger has taken to barking at unseen (to us) animals and wee wee hours in the morning, like 4 or 5 as dawn is approaching. It isn't just one bark, its intent along with growling--like something is wrong. It's normally her there's a strange animal in my space reaction. If we get up, we can't see anything causing the trouble. She sleeps in the living room. If, when we get up to check, we tell her it's nightime, go back to sleep. That will work sometimes till morning or like last night only 2 minutes. If we ignore her, it will last awhile and seemingly not stop--though it does.

During the day, she'll sit and the window and watch the world and bark appropriately (for the most part), but not carrying on as she does at night.

We're going camping this summer with her and I'm concerned about her waking everyone up.

Any ideas? Thanks.
 
I like to sleep, so I would crate her. Just take away the stimulation. I keep a crate in my bedroom for exactly that. You wake mom up more than once? In the crate you go.
 
Noah would react once the windows opened in the spring, but it was usually an animal outside. I would tell me to be quiet (he slept in the bedroom) and he would go back to sleep. His usual was a low growl or real low woof. I knew to check if he did this as it was out of the ordinary for him. We also have a grassed laneway running behind our yard so he may have reacted to that.

Where does Ginger sleep - in the living room? And are your windows open now for spring? If so, she may be reacting to hearing early morning sounds coming in through the open windows. A solution may be difficult to find if you can't pinpoint the origin of what is causing her to bark.
 
i have just learned to sleep through it LOL

when we go back packing, or camping it is usually just my hubby and I. I dont see anyone else on the trails or anything. so i dont have to worry about the barking. I do wish my guys would cut it out though, because it scares off the wildlife! and Id love to see some when i go camping.
 
Deska used to do this - start barking when the birds start chirping just before dawn. he has mainly grown out of it, but I ended up having to ignore it (shutting all the doors) for him to get the message. Then for a while he would sit at the side of the bed nudging my hand, or hitting the alarm clock to try to wake me up.
