Well its not the usual thread about how to do the ears, our breeder showed us how and did Roscoes the first time for us. But I unglued them about a week ago because they started to stink. The way she did them was twist the hair between the ears and glue them and then glue the tips down to the head.

Now I have two questions. First is would it be better to glue the tips to the edges? I feel like gluing them so far down will make them break too far down.

Second question... Is it normal to have a lot of ear gunk when gluing? His ears were stinky and had lots of nasty waxy grossness I cleaned out. Now his ears have been unglued for almost a week and still not pricked yet so I haven't reglued. And they still are seeming to get waxy and gross. Could it be an infection?

We are scheduled to go get his 3rd round of shots next week so I can have his ears checked then.
 
Go to the vet and see if maybe your dog has ear mites or if something is wrong. The ear glueing/taping should not make your dog's ears stink.
 
I highly doubt he has ear mites. Being bred and raised to be a show dog and by a show breeder, she rarely took him outside even. Plus he shows no symptoms of ear mites.

Now droopy eared breeds are more prone to ear infection because the ear is more closed off. My thought is that when she glued the ears down that far it really restricts air flow into the ear. Which could start and infection. Its recommended to clean droopy ears more often than prick ear dogs, but when they were glued like that we couldn't exactly clean them.

So I'm wondering if gluing a different way would solve the problem.
 
My dog Lacey used to have a problem with ear infections all the time. It was a darkish brown wax so are mites I think.She also would start shaking her head from side to side and that was my first sign that something was brewing in there. They will probably give you a rx of ottomax it's a little pricey around $60.00 there is also a generic made now so you may want to ask your vet if they carry that before purchasing the name brand.
 
Cranberry's ears were fine- maybe we did glue a little differently because I could get to the inside and the vet was able to do ear exam with the ears glued down.
