Eating Kleenex and Toilet Paper

Tully used to do it a lot, now she only does rarely. I put it down to being bored and wanting something to do. Dogs are very good at inventing their own games.

Noah used to shred kleenex's under the bed - I think he did this to show he was upset with me because it only did it at that point. Emma loves the bathroom garbage. Liam will shred just about anything he can get his tiny white paws on - paper towel, kleenex, cardboard, paper, Christmas cactus - you get the picture:lol:

Vash is my personal paper shredder. He's actually stolen documents off the table and gone to work (his AKC Registration papers were almost one of them).

He's also got a thing for paper towels, toilet paper and q-tips. The thing is he doesn't really eat most of the paper, for him it's about shredding it up.

Callie is a shredder- I used to toss my junk mail on the floor before tossing it into the garbage can but she would rip the paper into tiny pieces. I thought I'd give her something that she could shred but that I wouldn't care if she ate some. so leaf lettuce became one of her favorite treats :wink2:
and now all the shelties love lettuce

When Riley was a puppy he used to love getting into the toilet paper! We stopped putting toilet paper on the roll holder because he would get into it. He would also love to pick out Q-tips from the trash can and chew on them! I would catch him with them hanging out of his mouth lol. However, he seemed to "grow out of" going after toilet paper and q tips. Not sure why, but it was a passing fascination for my sheltie.

My other sheltie has never cared for toilet paper and q tips, not even when she was a pup.

Haley, my 10 year old sable sheltie, has a fondness for toilet paper and kleenex. I've even caught her sneaking Qtips out of the bathroom waste basket.

I'm very good about keeping the bathroom door closed most days, but alas, my son is not. Yesterday, she managed to pull a new roll of toilet paper off the small shelf in the bathroom. She shredded it, gnawed on it, chewed it, and swallowed at least 3/4 of the roll.

What is the fascination with toilet paper? Is it a vitamin deficiency? Is she lacking fiber?

Do your shelties share this issue?

hee..hee...I just got done cleaning up a mess of toilet paper in thr bathroom. My Trapp has always had a fasination with paper.Does not matter what it is either.

If that's the worst they eat, then count yourself lucky!

I have boys that eat plastic, and Indy even swallowed a needle one (and yes, he had stomach surgery for it).

I little bit of TP, doesn't bother me much! I think of it as extra fiber!:rolleyes2:

Just wait until they start helping themselves to tissues from the Kleenex box (they are used so why would they want them?). This is Liam's newest trick.

All of my dogs have loved to shred Kleenex, toilet paper, paper, etc.

Max would unroll the toilet paper when he was little, but doesn't even touch it now. He does like to nibble on the corners of cardboard boxes. It's almost like a treat to him. Fred, however, is a huge stealer of Qtips. He can find one in a full trashcan & never leave a trace. :rolleyes2:
