Eating other dogs poop

Odin has picked up a new, not so fun behavior. He's about to turn one and has started eating our others dog poop. We noticed this change when we switched to a new dog food, which the dogs LOVE. My husband and I were thinking that maybe he likes to eat the poop now because it tastes better. We leave the dogs on the deck while we are at the gym during the evenings which is when he has the chance to eat our other dogs poop. It's causing him to throw up and have diarrhea. I'm not sure if there's a way from keeping our other dog from pooping on the deck as she thinks the deck is no different than the grass and is required to go whenever she's out there. We would hate to have to lock the dogs up in their crates while we are gone at the gym, especially if the weathers nice. Any recommendations?

Definitely not pumpkin, not sure about banana. I did hear pineapple or something in meat tenderizer.

I tried the meat tenderizer when Sadie started eating her own poo but it didn't seem to help, plus its very salty which isn't good. We eventually started calling her in as soon as she went and giving her treats for coming to us, which works well most of the time. She'd rather eat treats then poop. We then clean it up right away.

I read that some times dog's with a nutrient deficiency will eat poo to make up for what their body is missing. Make sure that the food you switched to is high quality.

We have been mixing the dog's food with pumpkin for awhile now so must not taste too bad.

We switched to Orijin which is a very high quality food.

Ahhhh, the infamous poopsicles!! lol Our dogs are doing it too. First it started with our oldest, and she taught the then..newby. Now, he has taught the "now" newby! We even go out with them to make sure to pick up just about as it comes out of them..lol Every once in awhile, one of them will beat us to it. I'ved tried the pills you put in their food to detour the others from the taste, apple cider vinegar, pineapple too. Nothing works long term except to know the poo schedule, and catch them in the act in hopes they'll respond to a "leave it" command. They say it is behaviorial and/or from something lacking in their diet. I think it is mostly behaviorial. Let me tell you, our 3 are not lacking anything in their diet.. That's my input ;-)..lol Ewwww...there's nothing worse than poopy vomit! I'll say one thing...our furkids teeth are sparkling white from all the extra brushing they've "earned"..lol Good luck. I hope to hear of some new ideas from your post.

One more thought here. It seems that our two youngest are mostly interested in doing this with the eldests "leftovers." She is not in the best of health anymore...had some medical issues we've helped her through, and I wonder if it is a canine way of trying to "hide" the evidence from "prey" kind of like a mother does when she has a litter. She'll eat their poo.

We've tried pumpkin, and it is good for tummy issues. No results on the poo issue though. No luck with banana either..;-(

It's pineapple - crushed and you have to feed it to the all of the dogs with every meal. Hope that helps!

Ironically, Jake has recently started doing this, eating my other dogs. I try to pick up straight after he has gone, but it can be tricky at night when I cant see or if Im not here and someone else is who doesnt think to pick it up.

Yukky habit and Jakes breath does stink, just going to try and keep up the picking it and I have been told the pineapple does work so I am going to start feeding it the my other dog in hope.
