Hello all... Just wanted to let you know it's been about 6 months since the traumatic experience of spaying, seizures and blindness for Eevee. So far, she's doing ok. We had to switch her food to Royal Canine Hepatic LS 14 (I know it's bad, but she eats this stuff and it was vet recommended) and I give her 3 small meals per day. Also she's on lactulose, hepato support, Vetri DMG and Circu Vet 20 twice a day.
Eevee used to be very quiet, don't bark at the door bell, don't jump etc. Now, everytime a door bell rings, she's barking like there's no tomorrow. Plus, everytime school bus comes infront of our house, she's barking also. Other than that, she's really good. I kinda like that fact that she's barking, but my husband misses the quiet dog. I guess Eevee didn't bark before coz she didn't have energy or something. Now, she seems to have much more energy.
Since the specialist said Eevee's shunt doesn't seem really big and due to her history of seizures, Eevee might get a permanent brain damage if she has a seizure after surgery, we opted not to have surgery for her. Specialist showed us journal articles stating that some liver shunts can be managed via diet change and drug only and dogs live upto 10-12 years. We are hoping Eevee is one of those dogs.
I took her to the vet this morning to get her pre and post bile acid tested again to check her progress. I'm hoping that her condition is not worse. If not better, I hope it stays the same. Cross singers!
