Enough is enough

We have four now. Up until two weeks ago, we had five. Casey is never on a leash (he thinks it is punishment and hangs his head). So two leashes, two hands a piece. But now, two hands, two dogs getting petted, per person. There are three of us, so we could do six. No. I actually like having the four. Although, I have mastered the fine art of petting three dogs at the same time. It's tricky. You have to sort of hug around them so your arms rub on the one in the middle.

But I'm afraid because Tara and Clara are the same age, and Annabelle is only two and a half years older. Casey is 13 now, and that is a thought- so soon to Bonnie. But you never can tell. I lost Bonnie's son 5 years ago. And after having gone through Bonnie's illness, and the constant daily floor cleaning it required, it is sort of nice to have four house broken dogs.

I guess I am the odd person out here with 9. Eight are rescues ranging in ages from 13 down to 5...and one non rescue who is almost 4. Breeds are 4 shelties, 3 oversized pommies, one collie and one yorkie. It is a full time job and I love it. Both my husband and I are retired and our days are pretty much 100% dog devoted. Travel is out...but that is fine with us. My husband worked at GE R&D in ultrasonic testing and traveled extensively world wide during his entire career...he is more than happy not to have to travel any more! And I have always been a homebody...probably from growing up on a small dairy farm where cows needed milking 2x daily and travel was just something that other people did. So, for us, multiple dogs are a joy and keep us ultra busy and young at heart.

A woman after my own heart! I have 3 ... all shelties... 2 are rescues. ... I also do doggie day care for my sisters sheltie too. I have 2 Persian cats also. I am blessed to work at home. After 30 years at Ford I am fine with no traveling. All my animals get along great. Live in a small cape cod with a nice sized fenced yard. I am very content with my pack!

Only one here and that is not likely to change for some time. We are home full time but the yard is not fenced and Hanna still does not have a perfect recall, which means that we are on-leash at all times when outdoors - no way I could add another until I feel she is better trained. We also have a kitty and I may be adding another. A friend of mine recently had one of his kitties put down and he is heartbroken. Remaining kitty is 10 years old and very lost without her buddy, they travel a lot ( at least 3 months of the year) so I may end up taking little Bits. She's an awesome cat, so if they do decide to rehome her there's no question but that she's coming here.

Have had 2 shelties in the past, when my kids were little, and I can honestly say that two isn't a whole lot more work than one and in some ways easier as they keep each other occupied. I could see adding another some years down the road - but that is absolutely my max.
