Exciting - Jackson has learned the "quite" command

Indy, even though he is debarked, can bark up a storm. He's favourite things to bark at were the vacuum cleaner and my blow dryer.

It was housekeeper (who wields the vacuum cleaner - certainly not me!) who found the trick. She turns to face him and in a growly face and a finger raised, says: "Ah! Ah!". It worked!!!! And without treats!

So I tried it with him the blow dryer! And it worked too! It doesn't even start to bark, so I don't even have to remind him anymore. He gets fidgety when he knows I'm about to start, but no barking.

I guess it was just finding the right cue that got his attention more than those dangerous machines!

I know what you mean - its so exciting.

Mine hush when I put a finger to my lips and people are really impressed that you can keep your dog quiet because everyone appreciates a quiet dog! Little do they know the rest of the time they are barking like crazy at every electrical device in the house and bird outside!

Love2Shelties - if they bark often enough you can put your finger to your lips or say quiet as soon as they stop barking and they will pick it up quickly enough. Dont use the signal/word while they are barking until you know they get it or they will think it is the signal to bark. You can also teach your dogs speak (ie bark on command) and quiet together.

I also have an ultrasonic bark collar for Deska when his barking outside is too much. It sits on the coffee table when it isnt on him so it goes off anyway if he barks too much inside.
