Willow loves to run but no longer feels safe with other dogs being her section of the dog park. When her side is empty and the only dogs are the ones on the other side of a sturdy fence, then she has a blast. She trolls the fence line looking for a dog she can coerce to run with her.

My oldest son is at our house for Canadian Thanksgiving. My youngest is out west and couldn't be with us. Willow was pretty happy to see my eldest and his wife and Willow leaped right into my daughter-in-law's lap the second she sat down. Later, Willow played chase with my son but when he was about to catch her, she jumped in my lap and gave him you can't get me now look. That was new. LOL

Yes, she had some of the white fur on her tail pulled out when one dog wouldn't quit and the owner just sat there. I think that was it for her, she no longer runs with dogs anywhere they might be able to do that again. However, she's keen on running and came up with this fence running game that she loves.

I have never taken the boys to a dog park. We have one near us, but I wouldn't want the dogs near other dogs off leash. Brodie is VERY protective of Deacon who is scared of other dogs - loves people. Deacon was bullied as a puppy. He loves Brodie and is warming up to other dogs in his classes, but he's not social with other dogs at all. Brodie has never done anything to another dog, he's never had a chance to, but he does put on a good show, particularly if he picks up on Deacon being uncomfortable.
 
dog parks can be challenging- we sometimes go to the one in Mobile but you do have to be vigilant and keep an eye on your dog/s and intervene if necessary. lots of the owners use that time to socialize with the other people but not everyone is good at doing two things like talking and watching their dog.
sorry to hear that Willow was made uncomfortable in the park that she used to love and play with all the other dogs there.
 
Oberon has never been to a dog park and never will go. It's not that I'm distrustful but there's no way to know if the other dogs have had their shots. I'm also concerned that the majority of dogs around here seem to be either the bully breeds or little Chihuahuas, which are just as bad in my opinion. When he was young one of the local Petco's ran a puppy playtime on Saturday mornings where shots were checked and there were not only the dog parents but 1-2 trainers always there and we did go there. But dog parks? Nah.

We left our local Petco puppy playtime - back when Brodie was a pup - due to an overly viscous (get this... and it's true, and I'm a previous owner of two)..... miniature dachshund! The thing was a terror on 2" legs and the owners, while lovely to chat with, were totally out of their league with the little guy.
 
We've generally used them when traveling as Katy refuses to poop on leash. We've never traveled with Annie and she likes to walk and poop so I'm thinking a park would be necessary for her as well because she wanders around to do her business.

I'm always wary of other dogs when loose as owners say they are "safe" but then they can be more aggressive than what I'd consider safe. What I find disgusting at so many parks is the amount of poop people fail to pick up. There are free bags provided and containers to dump the poop so it isn't as if you can say you forgot to bring a bag.
