Also the #1 and #2 thing that separates a good dog owner from a bad one is caring. You have already put forth effort that indicates you are probably in the good side. No one is perfect but most do well if they try.

Breeder was keeping this puppy (and another one from the same litter) for her show potential. Then this pooch was getting a bit on the bigger side. So she decided to sell it, and I moved in quickly to retrieve her :winkgrin:

Breeder showed me the dog's pedigree paper. Lots of abbreviations (AM CN GR CH etc - gotta look these up) Both sire and dam shows up on the OFFA.ORG site as good,excellent,none,etc.

Breeder also showed me the official AKC registration paper, but she told me that I have to "fix" the dog first and send her the report to get that paper back. There were many places where "If you can't come home with the dog and original document, don't buy that dog" but the breeder apparently is a well-respected breeder, and I understand why she's doing that. So I took her word for it.

AM= American
CN= Canadian
GR= Grand
CH= Champion

Yes, ref the registration papers, that's not at all unusual. That breeder is being very cautious that this puppy will not be used for breeding. My breeder gives me everything, but we have a long standing relationship of trust.
 
She is adorable.

Very standard for the breeder to wait to send papers, sometimes they can't trust people to do what they say they that they will spay or neuter. My breeder gave us the papers early as she knew that we would have Zak neutered.
