Flea & Tick Medicine

I have 2 Shelties: Finley 19 pounds and Indie 23 pounds. The flea and tick medicine is marked either "up to 20 pounds" or "21-55 pounds".

Since Finley is right on the cusp of 20 pounds would it be better to give her the 21-55 or the 0-20 dose?

I personally would use the smaller dose.

I also use the smaller (to 20 lb) dose on my dogs.

But is that what they are SUPPOSED to weigh? The dosage is for ideal weight, not what the dog actually weighs. Medically speaking, always use the appropriate dosage for the appropriate dog. If the dog's ideal weight is 23lb, then use the 21-55lb one, it's designed for them, same for the smaller dog.

Just so we are clear:

This is true for when you are feeding dog food, but not for medicine.

Medicine is dosed on what the current weight is.

Hello all,

Has anyone tried the Adams flea and tick spray, non toxic? Or the Pyrethrum spray also non toxic, made from chrysanthinums.

As you will remember Seamus has liver disease but needs to be protected, the question is how?

skin so soft bath oil

The vinegar and water sounds great. How about skin so soft by Avon, the bath oil, mixed with water.

Anyone had any success with this?

I have used various pyrethrum sprays for in between treatment and I do think they help. Because Pixie is epileptic and I can't use the strong chemicals on her either, I use Natural Defense Flea and Tick once monthly spot-on which is basically natural oils. It works as well as Frontline or the other chemicals I've tried. You can find it online. It's also cheaper than the chemicals (about $10 for 3 months)...I've found it cheapest at Cherrybrook. I use the 15 lb size though, not the bigger one.
