I know there have been some posts about this, but I figured I'd ask again.

Lexi likes to play frisbee. She isn't great at catching it, but she likes to try!
She also loves to use the frisbee to tug with when she brings it back, it's her reward.

She has ruined her first frisbee (tugged to death!), which I liked a lot--it was a Hero frisbee, a small one.

I'm looking for a small frisbee, but one that doesn't puncture so easily. She ruined her first one pretty quickly. I know nothing about them, just that I want her to be able to tug with it, but also catch it in the air, and I want to be able to roll it on the ground.

I don't have a frisbee for Emma but I got a Wham-A-Ham, which is basically a rope in a circle with heavy cloth over it (Fat Cat, Inc). It works like a frisbee, rolls and has two handles to play tug. She just loves it and has not destroyed it at all. The company has a Flail a Fowl, Hurl a Heifer, which are all similar. She actually did catch it last night. I think it is her favourite toy outside.
 
Kong toys is making a frisbee called the Kong Flyer, http://www.petco.com/product/104546/KONG-Flyer-Dog-Toy.aspx.

Its a soft, floppy plastic disk that holds up very well. Some friends of mine have one for the GSD and it is played with CONSTANTLY, its his favorite toy, and he loves to tug with it. It has held up very well.

According to the Kong Company website, it comes in two sizes - small and large.

I would suggest calling them,so you don't make the same mistake I did.As I did not realize the number in the description has a great deal to do with the size circumferance of the disc.

My first order was delivered in jig time,but one I ordered was only like 6" in circumferance.Which would be perfect size if you had a chihuahua.:biggrin2:

I love these discs.The flight is awesome,they are sturdy,and the lip of the disc on all of them are made for a dogs mouth.

We have 2. One is a Hero air~235,which is awesome,and the other is what they call a "blem".It has defects in printing of the design,and they sell them at a very cheap price.Performance of the disc is not hurt in any way,just in the print of the design on the disc.

Differant discs for differant techniques,ask the person on customer service what you are looking for. The 235 is wonderful for people like me that are just starting out in tossing,as even with the worst throw,this disc maintains a nice even flight,they literally float thru the air.

The only other thing I can say,is that Trapp at first was not used to the differant feel of these compared to the soft flexible discs,at first he was hesitant.

But once he caught the first few mid air,he was good to go.So that being said,if your dog is used to the cloth type,they may have a bit of hesitancy with it.

Both of these discs,and I'm sure many of them for beginners,roll very nicely.We started out with rollers,to get him interested.But it did not take much.He got it very quickly,and I never had problems with returns with him.
But I think the dogs drive has alot to do with it.Some will fetch others just don't have the interest.

Moonshine's Dad posted some awesome links back some time ago,which totally were awesome,and I took advantage of.Great learning tools & info. Now if you are interested in just playing tug,I think any disc or similar item from Kong could be one for you.

We do not play "tug" with Trapp with these discs. He has learned to release them,which was important to me.If he tugged,I walked away from him.He soon learned the disc won't fly if mom walks away.

Hero disc is awesome! My Cali was born to play frisbee and I have been ordering from them for quite some time. The blems or "blemished" ones are the way to go for the pups. They are alot cheaper because the graphic is messed up but I don't think your pup will mind :). I personally buy the "Sonic 215 blems". They have a rubberized coating to them that really helps with throwing on the human side and catching without damaging teeth or gums on the canine side. The fly straight and long without much effort. I usually order 10 at a time and we get rid of them as soon as they start to show wear so they dont tear up her mouth. I don't let her chew on them and she knows to drop without tugging when she brings them back so it really makes them last alot longer. We play 5-8 times a day for 15-20 minutes at a time (she usually gives up at that point) and a disc will last 3 weeks or so so for the $1 or so that it ends up being it is really worth it! I first tried the really small discs, but they just don't fly very far and they became chew toys really fast until she destroyed them!
 
So we ordered, and just received, our Air 235 Hero Disc. It's nice...but I think it's too big for Lexi! I think maybe we need a smaller one...maybe the 215 or something?

She has a really hard time holding on to it, even when we roll it. It's big and heavy for her.

Oh well, it was only like $3.

That is the frisbee that my friend's ACD uses. He almost never goes anywhere without it! Erin will throw it for him, and when he brings it back sometimes he will drop it in his water pail so nobody else can have it. Then he takes it out, dripped wet, and wants Erin to throw it for him again. :lol:
