I'm a happy owner of a Runaway Sheltie who found us over a hundred miles away.
We were not looking at getting another dog after the passing of our 14 year old dachshund. But to help a friend thru a friend, the opportunity came for us to care for a Sheltie that needed quarantined in a home environment rather than the vet's office. It took a lot of tugging and pulling for me to accept caring for a dog in my home, let alone my husband to accept because we so attached to our loss of what was 'not a dog'.
I had no clue of what a Sheltie was about nor how this girl coming to us would look...she was found on the streets, had been in a dog fight, somehow had her toenail torn out. She ended up at the vets very underweight with worms and such. Not knowing if she was potty trained or not, I had no place for her to stay but inside my house; thought I could keep a close eye on her and hoped that she wasn't a biter.
She had a longer drive than I did; mine was only 30 miles to meet her. And that first meeting was amazing - she saw me from afar and came running like she knew me. She jumped up on me, stayed close by my leg, and didn't leave my side; she rode home in my lap.
Well, the rest of the story is no owners claimed her, we paid her vet bills and became hers. I searched lost/found sites for a long time to find her owners as they had to have loved and missed this girl. I would never give up searching if I lost her! I didn't realize how 'not a dog' could come more than once in our lives.
We call her Shelby May, because she May do this or she May do that and she May do what ever she pleases :biggrin2:

What a heartwarming story. Thanks for that fabulous introduction and history on how Shelby May came into your lives.

We hope that you find the Sheltie Nation a fun and informative place to be.

What a wonderful story, sounds like she came to you at the right time. I love the name! LOL! sounds like she has a lot of personality. Congrats on the never family member.
