I once was a rescue dog. I was left sick in a kennel at the pound. A nice lady from the Sheltie rescue came to save me. I had lots of medical issues. I had allergies to the food I was eating and my skin was infected and I had bad teeth. I was nearly bald from my skin condition. They took me in and gave me special baths which helped with the Itching. I was a good dog but this lady needed to send me to yet another lady because she didnt have what I needed so here I go again now I have to fit in again. Well things got better this lady had the time and patience to deal with my skin. My hair was starting to grow back I almost have a full coat now. It was time to post me on pet finder. Many people came to see me and I showed them what a good boy I was but they couldnt get past that I still has some hair loss and was missing some teeth. Then one day this couple came to see me It was around Valentines day. This was the day I was to meet my new mom and dad! We hit it off from the start! I went home that day with them. She didnt care if I was a perfect Sheltie! I was beautiful to her! On the way home we stopped at Petsmart and they let me do some shopping I had a blast! We finally arrived at my new home. I wasnt sure how to act. I kind of stayed off in a corner but eventually I came out of my shell. I couldnt believe my mom lets me sit on the sofa next to her! Wow, This is nice! Bed time is cool too I get to sleep at the foot of the bed! Well, its been over a year now and I know Im loved! I can tell by the little things they do for me. I now hold my head high when Im riding in the car,and at the groomer I know Im beautiful cause I can see it in my moms eyes as she is watching me and she always tells me , "you are my handsome man!" And this is how I went from a Rescue to a King (Buddy)

That was beautiful. Thank you for sharing that with us. When I was looking for a new sheltie, I looked for a rescue, but unfortunately/fortunately there were none in my area, and the shelters that I contacted from the US, did not adopt out of state or country. One day, I hope to adopt a rescue. I think the rescue dogs are very special and the bond that you create with one is extra ordinary because of what they have gone through. I spoil my two. When I hear of stories of neglect and abuse, or see a dog that is tied up, all alone outside in the rain, or cold, I look at my two and wonder if they know just how lucky they are. If I could afford it and had a big enough place, I would take as many in as I could. My heart bleeds for these poor animals. You are very lucky to have Budd in your life and he is lucky to have you!

Ok, tears in eyes! Lovely, lovely story! Thank your sharing that!

I thought about rescues myself, but I had to admit to myself that my life just could not devote the time and attention that a rescue might need.

I'm so glad that there are people like you who are willing and able to take on the potential challenge (and reward!!!).

That is a great story! I wanted to get actual rescue dogs but they wouldn't let us because we didn't have a fence at the time. Now we have a fence and all three girls came from homes that couldn't keep them anymore. I just kept them from going to the pound or to a rescue...... I guess I kind of rescued them all! I really loved the story. Isn't it so rewarding seeing them change over time with love and care?

Yes its a huge reward to help any pet who needs a home. I loved him from the moment I found him on pet finder. I had our appt all set and had been approved for him and we got a blizzard, but guess who had her husband driving across Michigan...Me. I had to go! When we came home with him he wasnt as thrilled as we were I was kind of hurt. I expected he would just love me. Wrong..He had been treated badly and I needed to prove myself to him. I should of done my home work. But one day I was sleeping on the couch he came over to me and licked my cheek and stood there just looking at me I was over the top with joy! He has become my shadow and my faithful friend . I would do it again it has such a positive experience! Next Id like a Bi Black or a Tri Just dont tell my husband...lol They are addicting...and I am Addicted. lol

oh buddy. there is nothing more rewarding them taking in a pupper from a rescue Every single sheltie I have ever had, except one, have all been what my vet calls "throw aways or broken puppers" Holly is bald, Shanny has chronic pancreatitis, Maizie has severe arthritis, all 13 shelties I have ever had were ones no one wanted. This is why I opened my shelter for the older and sicker puppers. The joy I get from them is immeasurable.

Bless you! That sums it up! :smile2:

What a great story. I wonder what dogs think sometimes and what they'd say if they could talk. I think you've summed up Buddy's little life well. You are all lucky to have one another!

It is funny you mention this, Sonya Fitzpatrick (reknown pet psychic) used to call me everytimne I got a nre dog or if one got sick. I always wondered why my poor babies had been through before they came to me. She never knew their stories (and many times I didn't either) but she always seemed to know what they were thinking. They related to Sonya the fact we made up songs for them, that that bald heavy guy who sat in thew recliner with the remote always ate chips and tried to win over their affection with them was alright. She knew so much about their pasts. It may seem weird to some but she really knew things about these babvies I had never told her. When Rachie passed and Marcus she called and said they wanted to give me a message....that they passed over and were ok and wanted me to know it was o k.
