Fromm Gold Puppy food has changed recipe

Just learned that Fromm has changed many of its recipes due to anticipated ingredient shortage (apparently this shortage is due to trade wars and duck is now not readily available). The first three ingredients in the Puppy Gold line have now been changed to chicken and chicken by products which my little 7 month old guy, Duncan, doesn't tolerate so well. I would love to hear your suggestions as to what may be another great quality kibble we can transition Duncan to. He loves salmon, duck, turkey and lamb.

I gave up Fromm a while ago for this reason. I don't feed anything with by-products and am very surprised at Fromm which has always been a quality food until now.

I'm switching my dogs to Nutro foods which you can get on Chewy, at a price about the same as Fromm. Sourced and made in the US and good quality ingredients. And there are a variety of foods with various proteins and dietary needs.
 
That is terrific to hear that all your fur babies love the same food; we've never been that lucky here (talking about the humans and their food likes too :-) I will definitely take a closer look at the Merrick line. Do you do their grain-free food?
 
Thank you so much for the Nutro suggestion. I use their small training treats for Duncan and he loves them!! I will definitely look into their kibble line; I am hoping that they have puppy food that is predominantly lamb, duck or salmon as it seems like so many puppy food choices contain chicken in the first few ingredients.
 
Wellness Lamb and Barley - never had a recall that I'm aware of, quality ingredients, the dogs love it and it gives them a nice firm stool. Shiny coats, too!

Need to be cautious about any grain-free foods - an issue with taurine according to a vet I spoke with yesterday. She said lots of heart disease among dogs fed grain-free long term, just FYI.

After 14 days, Minnie's "up and down" stomach was completely controlled, since it has been a dream :wink2:
- her stool 1-2 times a day always firm and the same -not a single relapse in this 1½ year

I actually dare not to change :no:

It's more complicated than just grain free/issue with taurine. The vet may have given you incomplete information. I'll find some of the articles explaining the details of it tonight. For most breeds, most dogs, grain free in general is fine.

On the Fromms food before the ingredients change Duncan had been very consistent with his BMs, too. I am glad to hear your baby is doing great on it; I haven't tried the new ingredient formula but it is encouraging to hear that Minnie has still been having happy stools
