Fun at the Sheltie National

Well, it was such a fun experience to attend the National at Purina Farms. We were there Saturday 4/22, the last day. We got to see some of the best in show elimination rounds, and our breeder alerted us to her favorite, Laureate Invincible. We located his grooming area, and were able to take a photo of handsome "Vinnie", who went on to win Best In Show!! I got sweet Sheltie kisses from several dogs, and people were generally very nice and approachable. Only one California breeder was there that I could see, which makes sense as it is a fair distance to Missouri. I still can't believe our luck that we happened to be there during that week.

How did everyone else do that was there? I know some agility folks were there - hope you did well. I did notice a board listing the Best All-Around Dogs, and Dr. Shelli's kennel (with her friend) had a dog listed at the top for different accomplishments in various disciplines. Very cool. :)

There's nothing like the National! I'll bet that CA breeder was Homewood -- the wonderful Patty and Carl Skinner!

I was keeping an eye out on the various dogs from Dr. Shelli's (Birch & Celtic), Ashley's (Enzo), and my (Keiran) breeder as well. From what I read on Saturday, their top dog made it through to the final cut and was elminated just before placements were awarded. It was very exciting to follow vicariously through FB posts.

I'm hoping to take Keiran, for agility, and Edan, for rally, to next year's National in VA Beach. (I'll have to check Edan's records to see if it's possible to get his RAE at the National.)

Wow, Vinnie is one beautiful sheltie!

Ok, that's it... I have to go in 2018! I guess this should be on ever sheltie fanatics bucket list!

I was working the rescue booth the first 3 days, but had to get back to work so couldn't stay for the conformation. I did speak briefly with Dr. Shelli, who I met 3 years ago in St. Louis. Maybe someday I can stay for the whole 10 days.

We had an absolutely amazing time! Firstly, I thoroughly enjoyed meeting Shelli, Enzo's breeder Rachel, and many of Enzo's relatives. What a blast!

Secondly, my pups were outstanding! We drove up on Thursday, showed Friday, and left Friday evening. It was quite the whirlwind. My big brag is that Lexi was first in Excellent Jumpers, earning her AXJ, and second in Masters Standard. I have to think she was in the running for High in Trial! She really had the day of a lifetime. I was so proud. I came home with some fancy ribbons and 2 big ASSA plates--how cool!

Enzo was a good boy as well, and mostly wasn't too crazy :) In fact, his Excellent Standard run only had 1 fault at the weaves--and several seasoned dogs had a similar mistake.

I was bummed not to be able to stay for the conformation or even herding portion of the show, but we drove with a friend and we showed locally the following Saturday and Sunday (where Lexi earned her first QQ!).

Below are the videos of Lexi's amazing runs, and one of Enzo's (the other is not so good, haha!)

I'll also see if I can find the pic I took of Enzo and some of his family!

If they were I didn't see them, and I would have loved to! Faith is a Homewood In The Paint daughter!! It was Brangay Shelties that I noticed.
