General decline in muscle power

Sorry for the delayed response as I have had the stomach flu and have not been feeling very well to go online and read responses to this thread.

I am sorry Mandy has similar issues to Chance... We hate seeing our beloved pets not being able to do the simple things they used to easily. I wish I could pick Chance up as he is a really BIG oversize lovable lug of a sheltie! I do not mean to say that he is overweight... just bigger in overall size and bone structure.

I am glad you can help her with the stairs as she could really hurt if you did not carry her. I agree with you... hoping the weather breaks soon so we can walk more... I am sure that will help.

Thanks for the information on Tenlite cold laser unit on Amazon. I will most likely purchase. Sure beats the price I pay for vet treatments.

what I did

My 2nd sheltie suffered from stiffness in her latter years. I used green lipped mussel with success. I also did deep tissue massage on her joints. Got a book on stretching and massage for canines, and I know she enjoyed it. It relaxed her as I did it in the evenings.

I also did acupuncture, but getting her to the clinic caused her tension so stopped that-she hated car rides as she aged. She liked the Dr, the treatments helped. Acupuncture needles aren't hollow like a needle used to draw blood, so they aren't as big and it isn't painful. I HATE NEEDLES, but acupuncture once you get passed the fear, if done correctly is wonderfully healing. He did show me how to use acupressure on her at home.

It is difficult finding good and effective solutions for aging pets. I applaud your efforts and I know this part of the journey is tough! Blessings on you!!!!!!! :hugs Shelties just aren't with us long enough, the time goes so quickly.
 
When we the last time she had blood work or a urinalysis? Any other issues like excessive drinking water and urinating? I only ask because I know a decline in muscle mass, particularly the rear legs is one symptom of Cushing's Disease. It is usually accompanied by excessive water drinking and loss of / slow growing fur.
