Geographic location

Hi Kelly,

Forgot about this for some time and remembered again right after I visited Barb's new pet store...

I found a little How-to article, http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-create-shared-collaborative-google-maps to create a shared (Google) map for SheltieNation members to use. How do you feel about creating one, or shall I create one? I would make it public to all and ask members to NOT use home addresses, but perhaps to use a nearby dog-friendly park or pet store.

Something like this would be so awesome! I know we have members who join but aren't quite so fanatical as some of us and don't post all the time (how can that be????:lol:)

It would be so great if we could locate members by region. That way we could easily arrange local get togethers. Awesome!
 
Very cool. I hope we can do it. Or someone can do it. And definitely, no home addresses people. We need to make sure no one's sheltie is stolen, cuz that's the only reason people would use our addresses, right? :P
 
My bad, this was one of those things that fell off my radar. :o

Thanks for the suggestions & I'll look into it. Not sure if it will work with vbulletin software, but I'll take a peak. Maybe they have something compatible with wordpress if there isn't a plugin I can use here.

I'll keep you posted.
 
With a quick search, I found this post from the vBulletin forums, but it's for version 4.x. I wasn't able to find something for 3.8.x, but I didn't search that hard. I wish I could be of more help.

Now I don't know if this plug-in would automatically add a pin for every member? It would be nice if it was voluntary and users can control where to put their pin.

Until ya'll get the map figured out, how about a spreadsheet? We could divide it up by state/country, and maybe have zip codes on it instead of street addresses?

The nearest large town for me wouldn't be very helpful. It's an hour away. I live way out in the boonies.

Doesn't Google have a shared online spreadsheet? If nobody has any objections, I'll start one.

You're welcome to set that up if you'd like, but Kelly is currently looking into the map option and should have some insight for us soon :yes:
