Hello!

The brother of my puppy has giardien and the area is contaminated there. Now somebody told her that there is a preventing medicine called giardiaVax. Does anybody have some Information about the how sufficient it protects? Urgent the puppy owner feels otherwise the need to give the puppy away to an "saver" area.

I did use the vaccine on two of my dogs a long time ago. They had no problems with it. I am not sure how effective it is.

One of my dogs came with giardia and we had to treat him as a puppy. My husband sprayed the dog area down with bleach and water a couple times. The dogs never got it again.
 
The vaccine is not effective protection against dogs getting Gairdia. It only prevents the shedding of the cysts which can protect your environment somewhat

In some places, like where I live Minnesota, there is no giardia "safe" place. We have so much water and wildlife that all the soil and every pond, lake puddle and stream is contaminated. Puppies are the most likely infected because their immune systems are not developed. Most puppies develop immunity as they age and it is not a big concern in adults with healthy immune systems. It is for the most part easily treated. I like a combo of Metronidazole and Panacur for 5 days. No need to place a puppy because of it.

Both Justice and Birch got Giardia as small puppies. They got it once , they were treated, recovered and have not had an issues since.

Sorry I forget to tell that her husband has a weak health so she fears that he gets issues with it too.
