Greenies

My mother in law has been giving her dogs Greenies for years and they love them. As a treat, she bought some for our puppy Bentley.

Bentley had an extreme reaction to them. He had extreme diarrhea--poor pup. The diarrhea lasted less than 24 hours, thankfully. He is now back to his normal self.

I just got a call from my mother in law and her beagle threw up right after eating a Greenie. After more research online, I discovered that although they are safe for most pets, many dogs have had extreme reactions to them, some even dying.

I personally would never recommend Greenies. My dog was miserable all night.

Oh poor Bentley!

I've never ventured to buy them,mainly due to what I had read about them. Plus with just really big dogs,we have had, in the last 5 years in foster,it just seemed pointless to give them something so small,I was afaid they would swallow it whole.

Hope Bentley is feeling better..

Sorry to hear about the bad reaction! Glad your Bentley is doing better. We tried them with our Bentley, and he didn't have any trouble, but they got all stuck in his ruff so we stopped getting them for him. Then I read about all the trouble they caused and didn't buy him any more.

I gave the boy's Flossies as well, as a special treat....not good for Indy at all. I had to take it away from him. I'm going to break it up into small bits that his stomach might absorb better.

Some pups just don't do well on rich food and some have stomachs of iron.

I really recommend giving carrotts as a treat. I think I'm going to go back to that myself. (but not the jumbo version that Ghiou pictured....baby carrots do nicely)

Haha, we tried carrots with Buffy and after about a half hour of working at it she had a neat little pile of orange bite-size bits in her bed. I don't know if she actually ate any of it or not, but it kept her busy! She's a picky eater though.

I hope we don't have these issues with the Petrodex things.... so far so good. Anyone have issues with bully sticks or rawhides?

I'm telling you, that carrot was surprisingly delicious!! But I do admit, I will continue with regular carrots from Farm Boy

Diana, I use Bully sticks, too. I don't use rawhides anymore for Indie. He had an experience where a piece of it was not digested properly and it caused a lot of stomach problem and bleeding did occur. He's ok now, but it was really scary at the time.

I can only vision my young boys when they were small. My oldest hated peas,and Eric hated carrots..there would be times when clearing the plates from the table, I would find piles of peas or carrots under plates. Or when I made chili..Eric could not swallow kidney beans (gag..reflex) but Scott loved them..so Eric would nicely pile them on Scotts plate!
