Grooming 101 but almost show!

you have to go to a show sometime and watch what happens before the dogs go into the ring.........
Would love to do that sometime. Here is a photo of my Kali with no touch up other than a brushing

you want a more almond shaped eye than round. Here Lily has the prettiest eye shape out of all of my dogs. This photo was taken under a slide, on an overcast day..Her littermate and sire have a slightly rounder eye, not horrible but not that true almond shape...Personally the almond shape to me give the face and expression more depth and soulfulness.

I am just curious. I have gone to a few shows, with no understanding of what I am looking at, and one time I did see someone using a black sharpie marker. I just assumed the dog had a spot somewhere that should be black but was not.
What other "touch ups" can be done with a black marker?

I've had discussions about the dip with the physio. It's usually a sign of weakened stomach muscles, you'll often see it in longer dogs, older dogs and fatter dogs. Tully's developed it recently because of her hip issues and I've got some exercises to build them back up. Deska's also got a bit of a sway - he's long for a sheltie (and of course has the elbow issues). Bacca's pretty long isn't he?

Having puppies does it too. A bitch who's had a litter or two will frequently develop a dip. I work Checkers over agility jumps to strengthen her back muscles. It really helps.

I couldn't tell you everything that gets done as I have only been to a couple shows where I was able to watch the dogs/grooming before going in the ring. chalk was used lots- every color that the dogs come in has a similar color chalk.
I see a lot of bug eyed shelties here. Honestly very unattractive. Most are from ignorant owners who breed their dog just to keep an offspring. I honestly get very upset when these very unsheltie like puppies are born. But that's another topic.
I think she can take a look at how to trim the ears properly, getting rid of the tufts tha sprout out and smooth out the outer edges so it blends with the rest if the head. That's the hardest part for me, if my groomer can do it I would actually consider sending the boys in once in a while lol But I've no idea where she can learn it other than from a serious show breeder. I would not want my Sheltie to be scissored otherwise other than trimming the hocks and feet.
Ajax also has a dip in the spine, but he also is not built firm. He doesn't like to exercise at all maybe that's why. Alfie has a straight back and is built like an athlete. Tell her our breed is very young, and consistency is yet to be achieved lol
