Grooming disaster

Ok,if that was my dog, that they brought to me after a groom, that witch would want to make sure she had protection before I would strangle her. Then I would be raising holy cane with management.

I would not have left until I recieved a reimbursement. Totally unacceptable. How dare they even think to do this. Looking at her before pictures, then the after it does not even look like the same dog.

Groomer experiance,or not...I don't care who or where, this person was not trained correctly on the grooming of a sheltie.

Now...you sit and wait for it to grow. I feel for you. I am angry just looking at the pictures.

We've no experience in grooming but have had to cut the fur around the poop shoot on Brandi several times. The undercoat is the hardest when brushing and combing and Brandi's is thicker so hers is the worst. We just do our best and try not to make it too painful. We bathe both dogs once every season ... they hate the hair dryer so it's towel dry as much as possible and then brush out, let air dry and brush out some more.
We also have to trim the fur around Brandi's ears and we cut the hair that grows on the underside of the paws. Both Brandi and Brady are good about this. The knots behind the ears are the worst ... some come out by plying with your fingers and then the comb but others have to be cut.
Unfortunately, we cannot cut their nails because they both get very panicky - so we let the grooming technician at the Vet do this and we have to stay in the room and help keep them calm. Last evening the technician noticed a few knots in Brandi's pants and offered to gently shave them out - she did a great job and saved us the trouble. I hate that we have to cut the fur there at times ... but I am learning that it must be done and certainly see that we are not alone in this!
We've never taken any of our dogs to a "professional" groomer because I have never heard of many good experiences with friends and coworkers pets. Not only were the owners upset but also the dogs ... hiding under furniture in embarrassment.
It will grow back in time ... in the meantime concentrate on portrait pics of her face. The Sheltie eyes and facial expression alone are so beautiful and each one is so unique!

Try using an undercoat rake for the fur - Emma has a fairly heavy undercoat and this works wonders. For the ears, after you get out the knots, try using baby powder or cornstarch - apply it and brush it through. Other than that, try using a slicker brush there every day or so. This really helps.

I would be livid, too. I think you're completely justified! Her poor belly! Her ruff! Oh, I would be so mad. There is no way I would pay for that. At least Zoey is still adorable. She looks kind of like a corgi?

This is why I'm refusing to get B groomed until I can get a solid recommendation from someone with shelties or rough collies locally.

I feel your pain. You probably felt the same way I did when I went to the groomer to pick up my Pomeranian and they had shaved him to the skin that is everything but his head and tail. :eek2: My Shelties have never gone to the groomer and believe me my Pom won't ever be taken there again either.

As painful as it is right now as everyone said it will grow back. Toby was shaved in April and he's just now starting to look somewhat normal. Your Sheltie wasn't shaved to the skin so I hope hers looks more normal much quicker than Toby's did.

As of today, at least I can say that I already can't feel the skin of the belly anymore. It's a lesson learned for sure. I'm hopeful she will have lost this doormat look by the time it's warm enough to bring her back to the dog park.

Zoey's still adorable and fun and pleasant whether she has long or shorter hair. I guess I just have to mourn that "better" look of her (for now) and I am very glad of all the support I received from you guys. I know that sometimes as dog parents we tend to freak out on every little thing, but at least I could validate that it was indeed a poor grooming job.

I'll update you once Zoey grows her mane back considerably enough for me to have to groom it, then seek more advice. Until then, I have some reading to do and more gear to acquire.

Fergusmom: If she had done the lion cut on Zoey I would've screamed. It's cute on cats, but totally inappropriate for dogs.

Well, I would say that is totally unacceptable, and I would demand any monies paid given back. To be fair, $20 for the wash, and that's it. Down her chest (the bib) is absurd. No one could say that needed to be cut, even if the groomer tried to argue. I would send your pictures to the owner, with your complaint.
Tell them you sent the pictures to a show groomer (that would be me), and that I was aghast at the unprofessional grooming job done on this dog. There in NEVER a reason to cut the bib the way the groomer did. Never mind, it was a horrible effort.

I am completely shocked by the complete unprofessionalism of that cut. It looks like a child went at her with a pair of scissors.

I agree with misjennygirl, except that I wouldn't pay for the bath either, since you might consider paying someone to even out the bad scissoring, if you can find someone you trust.

Wow. It is bad. Her poor belly looks like she was shaved for a spay. Seriously I would be happy with that as a surgical prep.

That's what I was thinking!

The only positive thing I can say is at least they didn't shave her right down. What was done may look bad but at lease she has some coat and under coat left for warmth.

Gosh this makes me real nervous about getting Blysse groomed when she gets older. Maybe I should purchae the book that was suggested and try to do it myself. I never was very comfortable with Petsmart of Petcos grooming department. Very sorry that your dog was cut like that. I think I would have contacted the manager. Even now if it hasnt been that long, I would go over there, take your dog and ask for the manager.

Grooming

OMG that is totally unexceptable.I for one would be demanding my money back.I am very luck to have Shadow's breeder do both my dogs for $60.00.

Just so it's clear though, the botched job was performed by a female particular posing herself as a professional groomer. Her installations looked appropriate, so my boyfriend and I were not under the impression that she sucked when we brought Zoey there. The jobs that I had done at Petsmart (2 different stores) were good. I was entirely satisfied both times. We just thought it was a tad expensive. I guess I now know why X(
