Has Anyone's Sheltie Puppy Howled?

My Callie is about 2. She howls periodically when she's outside, but not frequently. On the other hand, whenever I sit down to play the piano (I'm the church organist and also play for the choir), I'm guaranteed that she'll howl. I can't tell if she's trying to sing along, or if it is really bothering her. Rather unnerving to practice while she's singing along though -- not at all in tune!

Dickens has taken to howling like a wolf at the fire whistle when it goes off. It's the funniest thing to watch.

Lexi is a howler. She howls whenever she is left outside or downstairs, when she doesn't want to be. Pyper always joins in, even though I seriously doubt she knows why they are howling. Now, my 15 month old granddaughter also joins them. It is actually pretty darned funny.....noisy, too, but funny.

Sonny, my heart dog, howled. He did from the time he was a pup to the time he left for "the bridge" at 15.5 years. We loved it. I have Lilly now and she has yet to even bark. Very puzzleing. Good thing I found out she has a voice, b/c she uses it to yawn. She also barks in her sleep so I know she can

Deska has always been a big time howler, usually out of frustration or if he can't get to me.

Howling is one of those throw-backs from wolf packs - it's done to call the pack. I know quite a few dogs that do it when they hear sirens. I read an interesting article that canines are so musical they purposely howl 'off key' when they howl to a sound as in wild dog packs it makes the pack sound bigger.
