i used frontline plus tonight because my princess had two ticks today. i'm a nervous wreck she may have side effects but the ticks made me really scared. anyone out there who can give me some feedback about their experiences with frontline plus.

Because we live in a very high-tick area, I use Frontline Plus on all four of our Shelties. They do quite well on it -- no side effects for five years. Yes, I wish we didn't have to use it, but we need a product that prevents the ticks from re-injecting the contaminated blood into the dogs, and that's what Frontline does.

I've had four different Shelties on Frontline PLus their whole life without a single problem.

One of my Shelties lived to 13 1/2 years and one of my current Shelties is 14 years old.

It's hard, or impossible, to judge your animal's reaction to an insecticide compared to another animal since they're all so different. Some people haven't had any issues, some had have issues, and some had even died from it. It's one of the things that make it scary as you're taking a gamble to some degree especially since no long-term testing is done on the effects of these poisons over time. You can't say it will harm them over time, but you also can't say it won't hard them over time. I posted this article on my FB last week and a few people were alarmed and agreed to stop using them. There's so much unknown about these toxins.

I have 3 shelties that have been on it thier whole lives never a problem.

Frontline is topical and is transported thru the oils of your dogs hair it doesnt go into the blood stream. Only thing we see as a reaction is sometimes dogs with senitive skin may have some itchiness or redness.

I use Frontline Plus in the summer months on my two, and no issues here. I'm like the others, wish I didn't have to, but I think it's preferable to lyme for me.

Other than local irritation at the site of application, we have yet to see a significant reaction to Frontline. Admittedly one or two owners a year claim that when they applied it the animal felt ill for a day or two, so they switched to an alternative - whether there actually was a problem or it was a 'placebo effect' from having been 'warned of the dangers', of course we do not know. None of these were serious.
With perhaps 6,000 patients, the majority on one of these medications, 6-12 months a year, for the past 10 years or more, that would be hundreds of thousands of applications.
Once again, any medication that is effective has the potential for problems, and it is all about risk versus reward. We use medications like cortisone, rimadyl, and phenobarbital frequently which do indeed have risks and we have had to deal with these problems. But this has not been the experience in our practice with Frontline and similar medications. - Dr. Mac

Yes, but with the above medicines, there's more information about the long-term effects of said medicine. Nothing has ever been conducted on these toxic flea medicines so no one really knows what problems these might be causing since there's no study done. It's a big mystery what effects, if any, these medicines have on our pets.
