Heart Failure/Collasping when walking

Holly is 16, they did xrays and discovered an enlarged heart but no fluid in the lungs. They started her on enapril but within 10 days of starting the meds she starting having seizures. Friday we pulled her off the medicine and the seizures have continued and seem to be getting worse. As soon as she gets up to walk around she collapses. Has anyone had these issues with their Sheltie before? She bounces right back within a minute. Her thyroid medicine was too high of a dose so we are reducing it as of tomorrow but honestly not sure if she will survive over the weekend.

Chelsea had syncope sessions when her heart was failing. Probably the last 4 months.

If she did something that 'suddenly' needed a faster heartbeat, ie - saw a cat in her yard, with her heart enlarged and weakened, it couldn't supply blood fast enough, and she'd lose consciousness. If her excitement built up gradually, she could sustain a period of fairly intense activity. She never experienced seizures though. The last month she went on to diuretic medication as well as the heart med she was on. The last couple of weeks, she was on 2 heart medications, and 2 diuretics.

Take lots of pics, and enjoy your time with Holly. 16 years, Wow. I bet there are some wild stories...

Have you called your vet to let them know what is going on ? Might be a good idea. Praying for peace and healing. Enalapril should be helping with the heart condition. Did the collapsing begin when meds were started or have they been gradually getting worse...maybe the dose needs adjusted.
 
Yes he collapsing started when we started her on the meds so we withdrew them and adjusted her thyroid as well. She only weighs 6 pounds was always a tiny little thing but you would never know she is 16 still looks very young in the face her favorite place is to lay on my bed so that is where she is and will stay. Thanks for all the responses I really appreicate all the good thoughts and prayers!
 
I agree with talkling to the vet about Holly to see if he has any suggestions. I know how hard it is to see her just collapse like that. My sweet precious Angie Love had canine cognitive dysfunction the last few months of her life (she lived to be 16 1/2, six weeks and six days) and would try to walk or get up and fall back down too. It was heartbreaking for me to be unable to help except try to right her and encourage her to keep trying. I am praying for Holly and you. She needs you to be close and talking to her. Thank you everyone, she has very labored breathing and I believe tomorrow they are going to try a homopathic heart therapy as the traditional ones seems to help her breathing but as I said before this is when the seizures started. She has been such a great dog, bought her at a pet store (I know everyone said I was crazy) but she needed a good home! I feel very lucky to have had her for as long as I have but it is so heartbreaking to see them go through all of this. Also I don't seem to know my way around this forum very well but in Feb she went through kidney failure and I actually pulled her out of it by buying a kit online and changing her diet. She has been on a all organic sweet potatoes, eggs and broccili and zucchini and she loves it! Thanks again for all the prayers and good thoughts!
