Heavy breathing

Hey there, I have two shelties, one is a male, 6 month old tri colour and the other is a female tri colour, aged 4. :smile2:

I have done a bit of research but I just wanted to hear some of your views, fellow sheltie lovers :D

When they go to sleep, I find their stomach rising and falling rapidly. They breath very very fast whilst asleep but sleep soundly, and their breathing returns to normal once awake.

Is this just the way shelties sleep?

My guess is puppy dreams!

Or the house is too hot. If anything like human's our body temperature cools as we sleep. So when we first go to bed in the summer humidity, we are hot. While we sleep our body cools down. Perhaps its the same with your dogs? Do you have AC?
 
I too have wondered about Julip's rapid breathing while she sleeps. Its not all the time, but definitely sometimes.

I agree the heat isn't going to help - but she has done it from the day we got her back in Feb. when it was cold! So I too think (hope) its just puppy dreams.

Wondering how heavy your dogs breathing is after LOTS of running?

I'm talking after lots of chasing /being chased at the dog park. The dogs here that do agility etc.?

Julip also loves running along the fence that separates the big dog / small dog area. Of course there is always a bigger dog ready to run along the fence beside her (its a long fence!) If she meets the dog (without the fence in-between) she was running with, they don't want to play!? Or even care about each other. Its strictly ALL about the running along the fence! :biggrin2:

Sometimes her chest is pounding SOOOOOO fast & hard, I worry!
Yes she does just stop & lay in the grass when she's had enough. We always have water for her too!

Another question, is it OK, to let them drink a lot, when they are running SO much. You know how you wouldn't give them their entire dinner & seconds later have them run THAT nuts - is it the same with water?
