Hi and welcome. I have family in Greece - Rodos (although many of the younger generation are working in other countries in Europe because of the economy). And I know they've never seen a Sheltie before they saw mine. Good luck in your search. There are great breeders in the Nordic countries if you are willing to look that far - in Australia we often have imports come from there.
Thank you Caro.Yes that's fair enough.Well purchasing a puppy is a decision of primary important as you are going to live and care for him for abou 10-15 years. So I'm willing to make my research wherever as long as I can make sure that the doggie won't have any diseases because of bad living conditions e.t.c.
What I'm afraid of when buying from abroad are the diseases that might emerge. It will be two times harder to send the dog back and replace it with another. That's why I'm hesitant of buying it alone otherwise I wouldn't even think of buying it from a pet shop, which is my last option(unfortunately).
Lisa, I can only say that we in Denmark have serious breeders, and here in Denmark we do not keep our dogs / puppies in cages but you should expect a price of around 13.000, - Danish kroner -if it is to be show dogs maybe a little more.
Thank you Cleo2014 although I think I won't make it to find one.
Hanne well I know that there are extremely good breeding places in whole europe.Someone who owns a sheltie recommended me one in Bulgaria but they don't answer. And well tbh I can't afford such a big price.
I tried to contact a few sheltie rescues but they don't make shipping arrangements and I really don't know where to find one.
wish we could help with your search but Greece is a little out of our experience.....
there are many sheltie breeders and rescues in the US so it's a little hard to imagine how difficult it can be for people in other areas of the world. we've had some members in Poland, the Czech Republic, France and Germany although I don't believe that any of them have signed on recently........
Yes I do understand. Most of people in rescues shelters don't reply.Well I had found a sheltie breeder in Texas but he hasn't have any litters yet.And I guess it must be extremely difficult for a rescue team to give it's sheltie to families abroad.I've also tried to communicate with owners of shelties who sell them in popular sites via email but they are not replying.I guess I'll need to call them soon.
No that's why I've been looking for a puppy for six months. The last time I came in contact with a pet shop owner I regret it.I know there are breeders who sell their puppies in reasonable prices and the living conditions are excellent, they take care of the doggies and as a result they are healthy I'll just need to keep searching in particular areas.
