I laughed too, when I read the comment about reading "old" posts! I always said that one day I would go back and read some of the posts from before I joined. Yeah right! This forum has grown so much, it's a challenge to stay current.

Abby, you will love it here! It is quite addictable. I spend so much time learning about new things for my Shelties on this forum, I never actually get a chance to do anything with what I've learnt! :lol:

I got my first sheltie from a vet friend when I first moved into my house,she called and said ok you have a house , a yard and a fenced in back yard you need to take this dog. I said " let me look at her" Yeah right, you know what that meant. My dad went with me and thought she was deaf, but she wasn't , not at that time, but that came later.

Abby had been shaved to the skin because she was completely infested with fleas and was matted beyond when a lady brought her into the clinic and said if you dont take this dog Im taking her to the pound. My vet said she looked like a big pin cushion and kept her for a full month before I was ready to take her. I got her the very first night I spent in my new house. I had to put sunscreen on her for awhile.

She was my first sheltie, and she was old. I have no idea how old she was when I lost her but I had her for 5 yrs and 3 days, I am crying just typing this. I loved this dog with my whole heart, she was my soulmate. She had a thyroid condition and had to take 1/2 a pill every morning and she also had congestive heart failure towards the end. The morning I took her in I thought I would be picking her up that afternoon and she would just need more meds.She was tough as nails.

She made the decision for me, when I put her in the truck she would always lay next to me touching me, leaning against me , that morning she turned her butt to me like she was trying to distance herself. They called and told me she stretched out to get more comfortable and went into full arrest and died quickly. I think she knew that morning and was trying to make it easier for me. That is just the kinda of girl she was.

She and I were a lot alike...


I am still so sad.

I will have to tell you about the others maybe tomorrow night. Right now I have to go blow my nose and wipe my face.

To answer the question about horses.. I have been riding off and on since age 4, and for the last ten years been riding American Saddlebreds. I now currently own A morgan horse I show in English Pleasure(saddleseat) named LMI Coalition Sonrise- registered name, and Manning as barn name yes , after Peyton Manning of the Colts!!
Will continue tomorrow , cant wait to get to know you guys to!!

Yes, please, pictures of your gang would be great, including the horses! I love horses and rode quite a bit until I broke my back on a bad fall during a July 4th ride. Firecrackers!

Hello Abby:smile2: I am owned right now by one crazy dog, he got stuck with me when he was 10 months old and his owner was sick and couldn't care for him. He is one crazy boy, five people tried to take him before me. If any of those five people showed up today they would have one crazy owner ready to do battle with them. He is a good boy. Oh and I had to laugh "old posts" like who has time to catch up??? i just try to keep up with what is on here very day.....well nice to have you join Abby have fun reading:lol:
 
Another Sheltie AND horse owner here! Welcome!

I have my Sheltie, Bailey (boy Bailey), and an Aussie, Krystal.

Then, we have 2 indoor cats, 3 barn cats, and one horse and one pony!

My horse is a Frieisan/WB cross (American Warmblood registered), and the pony who is my dear daughter's is a POA (Pony of the America's) basically a pony with Appaloosa type spots. We think he's Welsh/Appy--quite a character!
