So I thought I would stop trolling this site, reading over everything and anything. I've been around shelties, but I've never had my OWN puppy to mold how I'd like. Living on my own, naturally, makes that easier. No longer will I have to keep a steady watch over what my family is encouraging or feeding.
I will have my sweet Lyra (named after the constellation) in my hands around midnight tonight. My friend saved me a 16 hour round trip drive since she was already in Ohio this week. Lyra is a rescue puppy, the rescue lady (the rescue is out of her house) said that a breeder no longer could keep all her pets and was able to re-home all but an adult and two sister pups. This all may be a lie and these girls were from a bad line that the breeder wants to hide, or she's from a puppy mill, but either way I don't plan on ever breeding her and when she's of age, she'll be spayed. She may be a gorgeous tri-color, but there's no way of knowing her history for certain.
She was born August 18 of this year, still just a ball of fluff, and I'm hoping that since she's so young she won't have a problem adjusting to my two cats who are used to dogs and my rats. No the rats and Lyra will never "meet" but I would like her to not bark/attack the cage, lol.
I'm signing us up for obedience classes, first her puppy session for socialization. I'm not sure if I can find agility classes for when she's old enough (I was told 6mon-1year for their plates to harden), but I've been looking. I live in an apartment, but since I'm not employed, I want to find a way to practice her agility training when not in class. Still working on that but I've got time.
Her first month or so with me will be back at my parent in laws. They have a huge fenced in yard along with their horse pastures, along with cats and dogs and small children (daycare, the youngest is 3 or 4 and knows to leave the pets alone) I want her to experience different things and know they aren't scary. I'm pregnant but the due date isn't until May 30, and although I've never had one problem with all the shelties I was around as a child, I still want to make sure.
I'm not sure I meant for this post to be a blog..I apologize for that. I'm used to posting on my rat forum where if you don't say EVERYTHING, they will assume the worst case scenario and yell at you for it.
