Welcome Lucka and Nick! Nick is a very handsome sheltie. Thanks for letting us see all of your shelties.

The american sheltie is usually bigger and more masculine looking--a sturdy type of dog, while the UK or European sheltie is more dainty looking and smaller. In the United States most of the Show Shelties that win big are as close to 16" tall as they can get, but cannot go over 16", since that would be out of standard. In the UK the sheltie standard cannot go over 15". But it is not just the size. Here in the United States we have both types of shelties, but the UK type sheltie is not as likely to win big in the United States. I think that they have both types of shelties around the world.
Nick is more dainty looking than most of the American shelties. My Buddy is more dainty looking than most United States shelties, too. So they both look more like the UK style of sheltie.

And what about their hair, is it shorter than the UK type? Because the American collie I saw is higher and has shorter hair than the UK one, is it the same with shelties?

Blue merle shelties

There aren't many Shelties where I live, either, and blue merles really confuse some people. Last week a very nice man at the dog park tried to tell me that Phebe couldn't possibly be a purebred Sheltie. After I explained the blue merle is not the most common color, and is genetically a tri with a merling gene, he decided I knew more about Shelties than he did. He had a very cute minature Australian Sheperd girl, that I mistook for a Bernese puppy. She was very heavy-boned.

Yes, most people think that a typical sheltie has golden hair. Blue merle confuses them, but this colour becomes more and more popular here so the situation is likely to change.

I used to also get a lot of questions whether my sable Sheltie was a fox cross breed, when he was a puppy lol. I think he may have a bit of European look to him, he seems dainty enough to me
He's only a year old so he doesn't seem to have his full coat yet, but at least I do NOT get the Fox questions anymore!

When Nick was small, one woman thought that he was a domesticated fox and she was so excited to touch a real fox...she was a bit disappointed when I told her the truth )

When Nick grew up, we went for a walk, we often go to one place, where there are forests, ponds, meadows and bushes and behind some bushes, there were some teenage boys, probably smoking secretly or something and I threw a stick and as Nick ran after it, he passed these bushes. The boys did not see me and one of them screamed: Oh, there was a fox running! and the others said: There are no foxes here, it's impossible... And he replied: No, it must have been a fox, it was hairy and orange! )

Thank you, your boys are also very beautifull. it is nice to have two shelties together and watch them playing. I would like to have Nick's baby, a son if possible, in 4 or 5 years, it will be his successor, but it depends on if Nick becomes a breeding sheltie, he will be judged in spring so I hope that the commissioneers will like him.
