Hello from Kiyomi

Hi there! My name is Kiyomi (pronounced "Kee-YO-mi"). I am a sable & white Shetland Sheepdog born to AKC Champion Share the Moment and AKC Champion Brice of Jade Mist Shetland Sheepdogs in Davidsonville, MD. I was born to a litter of 6 females and 2 males on Tuesday, May 5th, 2009.

My name, Kiyomi, is a traditional Japanese girl's name coming from the Kanji characters for "kiyo" meaning "pure" and "mi" meaning "beauty" for "pure beauty." For more pictures of me, you can visit my photo albums collection at:

I am also active on twitter as:

I am the first Sheltie to be adopted by Victoria & Kenneth Foreman of Sterling, VA. Both of my parents are new to Sheltie health, care, and rearing, so have been relying heavily upon Carol Howell of Jade Mist Shetland Sheepdogs and the twitter Sheltie community (namely KathiD, SheltiesRock, ReggieSheltie, SheltieWorld, SuzySheltie).

It's an honor to meet you all and to join the Sheltie Forums community. If any of you are local to northern Virginia, Washington, DC, or southern Maryland, perhaps we'll meet sometime? We're looking forward to attending the Jade Mist Jamboree this October if you're a Jade Mist Sheltie.

Thanks! We look forward to hearing from you or seeing you soon!

HI
Welcome to the forum!!! Do you know the dam of your puppy? I am wondering because my friend up here just got a Puppy from Carol to show and was wondering if it was the same litter?! If it was talk about small world!LOL!!!

Welcome, and thanks for all of the lovely pictures and videos! Welcome to the forum; we are glad that you joined!

Welcome! and thankyou for all the pictures and videos! Kiyomi is beautiful and I love the name! If I ever get another sheltie, I will know who to ask to come up with a unique name for it! I hope you will like it here, we do.

Our pups are probably related!

I took one look at your pup's dam, Jade Mist's Share the Moment...and I thought that she looked just like my Bacca! Yup, hound ears and all! (Look out for that, btw! It runs in the family....).

So I looked at the Pedigree site and sure enough, Share's sire (Willow Cove's Wild Card) was Bacca's mother's grand-dad. Or something like that....it's a little convaluted and incestuous (Willow Cove and Jade Mist are very tightly linked over the last few generations).

If you get a moment, check out my pictures posted in my photo albulm - I'm sure you'll see the resemblance too! The one that caught me immediately was 1st picture of Kiyomi's Day Home with Family! The expression said it all!

Welcome to the forum, cuz!

Kiyomi's litter at Jade Mist

HI

Maggie had a litter just before ours. Share the Moment ("Share") was the dam to our litter on May 5th, 2009, while Brice was the sire. If your friend's puppy was born in April, Maggie was likely the dam. If your friend's puppy was born in May, your dam was Share (same litter as Kiyomi). We had the option of adopting from either litter, but we needed time to puppy-proof our house for Kiyomi.

Walt & Merle Bodycomb are the owners of Laddie, Jennie, and Kaelie:

It was Walt & Merle who made it possible for Vicky & I to adopt Kiyomi from Carol. Merle had given us a wonderful recommendation to Carol, and Carol has been couching us through Sheltie adoption and care since.

Thanks, Ania!

My wife, Victoria, is Filipina and speaks Tagalog, but most Tagalog names are a little difficult for English speakers (including me). We both like anime and appreciate Japanese names, so we used:
http://www.babynameworld.com/japanese-girl.asp
as a starting point. From there, we asked our Japanese-speaking friends for literal translation since most American/English websites do a mediocre job of translating Asian names (Don't EVER get a Kanji tattoo without researching it first from someone fluent in Chinese or Japanese! :biggrin2:) "Kiyomi" was chosen after seeing it on that site and then asking our Japanese friends in Mishima, Japan for elaboration.

If we were to get a sister for Kiyomi, her sister's name will be Miyumi or Mikyuki which translates as:
美幸, meaning "beautiful fortune" or "beautiful happiness"
深雪, meaning "deep snow"
美雪, meaning "beautiful snow"

If you have more questions on Japanese, Chinese, or Filipino names, we have Cantonese, Japanese, and Filipino family and friends who love to translate for us and give us etymology when they know it.

Thanks, cuz! :)

Wow, Bacca and Indy are a gorgeous pair! Yes, the family resemblance with Bacca is immediately apparent, especially with the coloring and ears. Have you attended any of the Jade Mist Jamborees?

As family, I'm sure Carol and the extended Jade Mist Sheltie family would love to see you. I'm hoping to introduce Kiyomi to Laddie, Jennie, and Kaelie (the Bodycomb family Shelties) sooner if time permits, but definitely at the Jamboree. I just need to get Kiyomi to settle down, right now she's a little bit of a "spoiled brat" according to Carol. I've been letting the little puppy-girl get her way too much.

I'd love to see more pictures of your Shelties. Is your picture gallery entirely online here or do you also use another site such as Flickr, Picasa, etc?

It's wonderful meeting you, BarbV. Thanks for the warm welcome.
