My girl is not a big chewer, but kongs are great for chewers. You can fill it with canned food, peanut butter, etc and freeze it. The cold is also good for a teething puppy.

Welcome to the forum, and don't forget to post pictures. I have one sable female, named Emma, soon to be 10 months old. I had two previous Shelties, both males, Hamish and Noah.
Emma is also not a big chewer, except for the lattice work or the floor of the deck and this is usually when she has decided she wants inside. I agree - Kongs are great. My sister softens the dogs's food, puts it inside, and then freezes it (she does not have Shelties unfortunately, though she did in the past, and I got Hamish from her at 3 years of age).
You will never regret getting a Sheltie. They have so much love to give and can sense your every mood. Emma has become somewhat of a Velcro dog this past week and I am not sure what she will do when I go back to work.
Toys are great - there is such a variety out there. Emma really loves the smaller toys and really loves her hide-a-squirrel in the house and her Wham-a-Ham outside.

Welcome! We just went through the chewing phase with our puppy...but she still loves to chew (just ask the holes in our baseboards!).
Many people don't like rawhides, but I've found that it really calms her down and keeps her busy. I would prefer to feed her bully sticks/flossies, but she eats them way too quickly. I do have a deer antler for her that she chews on occasion (it's very durable), but she doesn't love it.

Ah..the dreaded chewing stage.We have recently discovered our dining room chairs had taken the brunt of some chewing.And it is not even repairable.At least he picked a chair that was not going to be used!
We also use rawhide here.Especially retriever rolls.They are long enough,and seem to keep the interest with our two shelties.We also have a lab,and he is a mighty chewer of rawhide.nothing else though,which is good.When he was a puppy,he would chew on anything that he could get in his mouth.
I would try the other suggestions.At 8 months,they are pretty much pass teething.Kongs would be my choice,filled with just about anything.Frozen yogurt,peanut butter...but freezing it does make it last much longer.
Other than a very sharp "ah-ah" to redirect the pup,and being consistant with correction;then give something acceptable to chew on.

All my shelties love stuffed knogs. I seriously think I may have gone crazy with out them. Bully sticks were another big hit with Diva. Ember and Justice didn't really chew that much. Diva also liked stuffed toys, she had this blue dragon with special mesh inside to help prevent shreding. She loved that. Anything ball like she could chase. On second thought there wasn't a toy Diva didn't like.
Look forward to hearing about your baby and seing pictures of him. Just be careful shelties are addicting. You can't have just one.

Toys... all good suggesstions.. I also found the frozen kong a god send.. I also gave large organic rawhide bones to tie me over when he was in that stage to retain what was left of my sanity

Hi and welcome to the forum. We have a 13 year old Maggie and Zak a 10 month old who LOVES to chew!!! I have found that he loves a rawhide although I only let him have a few times a week as he will chew it all day long if I let him. I have tried the antler but it was a hard one and sounded like cement. I tried kongs but he chewed those even the black one which is supposed to be durable. The raw hide calms him down when he really needs to chew. What color is your boy? Mine are tri's.
