Wanted to take a moment and introduce myself. Just adopted a Awesome Blue Merle Boy from Judy Ault MistyIsle's Shelties.
What a love bug!! He needs lots of socialization but doing awesome so quickly :) Just love him. Welcome to the group. My name is Judy and I live in Lakeland. I do rescue work for Mid Florida Sheltie Rescue here in Florida and am owned by three lovely scamps. Brandi who is my princess, she is almost nine years old. Kadin the clown of the bunch who is six years old and little Lacey-Lou who is my ongoing project in obedience, she is five years old. Both Lacey and Kadin are working in Rally Obedience.
I also instruct Basic obedience and Kinder Puppy classes at Imperial Polk Obedience Club here in Lakeland.

Come on in, take your shoes off and be at home. This is a friendly and very helpful forum to be a part of.

Hi, Judy!! :winkgrin: I Hope to get Levy into some OB. Years ago I was owned by German Shepherds and competed in Schutzhund. Levy has made a turn around in a short time but has away to go. Was thinking of starting working to a CGC but afraid of the stand for exam and walking through the group. Hes super smart though I leash trained him in minutes! Judy was afraid she would never find him a home for all he did was hide.
He is sure my shadow now!! :lol: He still scared of Ady but she so calm and sweet she tried to feed him meatballs tonight LOL. I figure matter of time and she will steal him from me :fl
So excited about this Furbaby I think in time we will make it to the obedience ring hes only 1 1/2 (Sept 30, 2011). And if I can leash break him and he has yet to hide I feel positive :yes:

I have handled many of those kind of dogs in rescue. The best thing to do is be very matter of fact about anything you do. In other words don't show emotion and don't comfort the dog when he shows signs of fear. My attitude is Ok, so you are scared this thing/person is not going to hurt you so we will just stand here and look at it until you feel comfortable.. Ok now let's go sniff it and see what it really is.... that's good now lets let this person touch you on the chest..(not on the head) aaah wasn't that nice.... he's a friend, maybe a treat? No? ok maybe next time but mama will give you one for being a good doggie....

It's how you act that they are feeding on. The more confident you are the more they will learn to trust you and look to you for guidance.
