u need to make him understand in a non verbal non abusive way that u are in charge not him. i can stick my face in my dogs food while she eats and she will just back away. at some point or another he has learned that his actions get him what he wants he learned to control people threw snarling or biting. u cant back down . u need to feel confident. if u are the slightest unsure or nervous or scared the dog senses that and will take advantage.

Shelly has it right, they sure do sense if you are afraid. Like I stated, your sheltie acted like this before you got him. I hate to see anyone bitten like this. I really admire the people who rescue, but if they have an aggressive dog they should tell it.
