Our lines tend to be very sllloooowww maturingwhich I like...Mine who is 4 1/2 is just finally starting to come into herself.

I have one girl who I had to glue the ears on until she was 2 years old. That ear leather just did not want to thicken. And every time I'd try to leave them unglued, they'd change. Finally, at two, the leather thickened up, and I was able to leave them alone, but that sure was a pain having to keep her ears done for that long.

Bacca's ear leather still has not thickened at 14 months. Do you think I still have a chance of reducing his hound ears if I were brace between the ears again, and readjust where the tips break?

That will be interesting Barb - tell me how it goes. If I trim the hair on Deskas ears really short it allows his ears to spring back a bit. His ears went very hounddog after he got a really full mane - his ears were so thin the hair weighed the ear down very quickly. By the time I started cutting the hair back he was 18mths and it seemed to me too late.

I don't think 5 months is too late at ALL!! When Caliber was about...I'd say about 8 or 9 months his ears pricked up again, and I glued them right back down...and they stayed tipped even when the glue came out. I would suggest keeping them glued until your pup is about a year old though, just to be sure it works...if, in fact that's what you prefer. Caliber at 11 months is still glued up! I am bound and determined to make them perfect!!
Questions after lots of ear thread reading
I have been reading the old threads all afternoon. I feel like i have a handle on how to do it and that either hair extension glue or sewing glue works best. I know that detachit and un solve seem to be the best at removing the glue.
Here is what i don't know. when you apply the glue to the hair will it set in a matter of seconds or is this something we need to hunker-down and be prepared for a wait?
Also I am curious about the "ear leather" and the thickening of such..How do you know when this has happened?
Bella is teething but does not have all adult teeth but we are getting there fast and I would say that was the beginning of when they went pricked. I can massage her ears holding a crease and as i let go they are tipped but as soon as she shakes her head they go prick again. She is 4 1/2 months old both parents had prick ears.
One last thing am i missunderstanding that sometimes the ears will prick only during teething and go back tipped after teething is done?

I use a glue that I ordered from a sheltie breeder.It is called Jiffy Sew,and I order the detachol from my Walmart pharmacy.It's pricy,but works really well.
I have learned & read just as you here on the forum,from the owners that glue,and thier posts,links etc..have been a tremendous help.
The only thing I'm going to add,is that the glue I use,you have about a 1-3 minute work time.Its sets fairly quickly.
I get everything out,before the dog goes on the table for gluing of ears.I can do both ears now,in such a short time,Jasper hardly knows I'm doing it.It hleps if the dog has a kong the first couple of times.I don't bother now,as he's not even on the table long enough.but I give him a treat after I'm done.
I do take glue out,and let the ears rest a day or two,but they always (1 does) goes really wonky.He has lost about 3 teeth so far,just starting.
His ear leather is very thin,unlike Trapp's.When Trapp was really young,I would also massage his ears over,and they would stay..like 2 minutes! it made no differance.I did not glue,wished I had. There was a period of time for 3 whole weeks,Trapp's ears were perfecto on thier own..then they went crazy~
Added note: a dab will do ya on the glue amount.I only use a dab,less tan the size of the tip of my pinky finger.It's just a small dot's worth.Remember..hair to hair..not skin to skin ok~

She also mentioned that chewing gum can be used in a pinch but that this would be real messy. I tried the sewing glue but Emma is just a bundle of energy that it was tough to get her to stay still long enough to get the ear tip to stay where it should.
