Lactulose....the miracle occurs!
He's been on Lactulose now since Thursday. Good news and bad news...
The terrific news is that he is almost himself again. His pacing, circling, head rubbing significantly reduced. And now he DEMANDS food and wakes me up to feed him. He still wants to eat in the bedroom but I expect that's to avoid Indy, the food hound.
A huge improvement in his energy. He actually trots and runs again for short periods. And his motor skills are better as well, though he still has problem with going down hardwood stairs. (Heck, I have problem with those myself.
So the bad news....the last two nights around midnight, he has had explosive diarrhea. Fortunately we were at the cottage, so David was with me to wake me up to bring him outside. (I'm such a sound sleeper, I often worry a complete stranger could break into my house and crawl into bed with me and I would never know it...even with the dogs barking at him!)
But tonight I'm on my own and I worry that the poor dog will need to go out and I'll sleep through it and then he will shame himself by pooping indoors. That would be a bad development, for sure!
He started at 6 ml twice per day. I cut his last two dosages to 4 ml. And I think I might set my alarm for around midnight to take him out, just in case. The problem with diarrhea is that it has no schedule, so even taking him out at midnight would probably do nothing.
Any other ideas?

I'm not sure what you could do about the diarrhea though. Hope he gets better! Keep us posted!
