I use EEEH! as well (often accompanied by several swear words as my darling 18 week old draws blood, yet one more time!) He doesn't mean to, really, but he's still has his razor sharp baby teeth that catch on to just about anything.
"OFF" worked well with my last baby. It's easy to say and can accomodate a very nice menancing growl from me.
Not that any of this is working at the moment!!!
To OntarioSheltie: Can you elaborate more on this verbal command at a time when it's not convenient? I'm ready to try anything!
To be honest, I have not really been trying what my trainer suggested because she hasn't been trying to herd us much at home, only when I'm practicing agility with her. In agility when she grabs me I've been stopping dead in my tracks and saying sternly to her 'NO!', then starting over. It's been working well so far.
What my trainer suggested was a different way of approaching the problem. She suggested putting a command to her herding behaviour, like teaching sit or lie down. When she starts running up behind us and grabbing at our ankles or clothes we're supposed to give a command like "feetsies!" (for lack of a better word). If we do this every time she tries herding us then eventually we can give her the command "feetsies!" to make her herd us. When she starts herding us on command, we're supposed to start making her do it all the time so that she gets bored of doing it and doesn't want to herd us so often. I'd also think that giving the command when the dog is really tired like after a good long run or extended play time would be good.
Since its a totally different approach I'd say give it a try!
