Holistic Flea and Tick repellant

No, you only apply the spot-on stuff, just like Frontline or Advantix. The directions say not to use any other flea/tick repellants with it. Chris, I don't know where you get yours, but I found it online at this site if anyone is interested. Chris recommended the 15 lb dose so that's what I'm doing.

I tried the garlic/brewers yeast one year but my finicky little darlings refused to touch their food with the garlic! I tried the pills, powder, fresh...no matter how I disguised it, it was a no go. But give them a bite of garlic bread from my plate, and it's a whole different story.... :rolleyes2:

So far, the ticks are avoiding the dogs. I am so pleased!!! :biggrin2:

.

Btw the vet said that some other local vet has made mistake by giving a Sheltie shot for flea, causing them died. He said there are already 3 Sheltie died caused by flea shot. He asked me to remind him if he ever try to give my sheltie a shot to cure flea or other skin problem.

The vet in question is probably using Ivermectin, which Shelties and other collie breeds can't take because it can be fatal. It is frequently used for parasites like mange on dogs. Be sure not to use one of the products containing it.

Thanks again for the info, Chris!!! :biggrin2: You may have saved lots of us from those nasty chemicals this year. I'm anxiously awaiting my shipment...it's getting warm here and I want to get them treated! Will let you know how it works on Pix.

Any Available In Canada

There's nothing available in my area that my vet will recommend, she feels the chemicals are too strong and unsafe. She recommends Frontline, which I'll have to buy online or go over the boarder for.

I'd rather try something holistic first anyway, does anyone know if that Sergent's holistic flea/tick control is available in Canada, or something similar?

Brewer's Yeast

Does anybody start their puppies on this? Is it safe?

We live in a very dog populated complex and every other week we are picking up fleas. They are driving me absolutely crazy, I can't even imagine being the dog. Tucker is on Frontline and still we have issues(not major, one here and there). Brodie is just too young to have the drops (although I'm thinking of trying the natural one mentioned and giving him a little dab of Tuckers).

My parents own a pest control business and I have all the chemicals and know how to treat them in my house but I can't get these pesky things off of them.

I'm in need of help. I cannot wait until he is 12 weeks to give him treatment. I need another option. Would you guys give a 9 week old puppy Brewer's Yeast?

I don't think Brewer's yeast will hurt any dog or puppy, but just to be safe you might want to put a call in to your vet's office to be sure. I'm not sure, though, how effective it will be by itself on fleas. It's usually given in conjunction with garlic and you'd need to be more careful giving that to a puppy since too much can be toxic. The natural remedy we've talked about here would probably be best, but one caution...it does say not to use it with any other flea/tick repellant, so I wouldn't mix it with Frontline or anything else. If you check the Sergeant's website on the natural product it will give you more specifics on how and when it can be used.

I love spring but I sure hate the bugs it brings!!!

I'm sure you can order the Sergeant's product online. Have you tried this site? Most of these will ship to Canada....otherwise, I'd Google it until you find one that will.

I looked into this further and the above company will ship to Canada and at a very reasonable rate. I was surprised to see how cheap this product is, even for 6 months its half as expensive as regular flea/tick medication. Since its holistic I was expecting it to be much more expensive than regular flea/tick medication. I'm definitely going to give this a try when the weather gets nicer!

Thanks for the suggestion Ann! :smile2:
