Hoofs ??

I got Miss Sadie a goat hoof to chew on (suggested by store clerk). It seems to splinter. Is this ok or dangerous? I took it away from her. I liked it because it kept her busy for a long time. :confused2:
 
IMO, I think they are horrible. The amount of bacteria is over the top.
Also, I couldn't stand looking at my dog chewing on recognizable body parts.
Please, consider something else, like large rawhide bones....but ONLY the brand made in the USA, where the hides are not treated with formaldehyde.
 
Not a fan of any kind of hoof or ears or bullwinkles etc. I would be interested in trying the deer antlers. If it splinters it would be gone. I remember the vial of bone shavings we took out of an obstructed bowel so they are out too. Any chew type toy at this house is only given under strict supervision and never just left with the dog. My blacksmith laughs because I put all trimmings into the garbage as opposed to throwing them on the manure pile. He does the same thing with his own horses' trimmings but he says we are a party of two. He told me that he sees more dogs throwing up pieces of hoof when he is working and hears too many stories about how the dogs at the barns he attends always have the scoots after his visit but the owners just continue to let the dogs scavenge.
 
My 6 month old Denali likes the beef trachea & pork snouts, & sometimes the bully sticks. I have been concerned as to whether he could choke or get blockages from any of these but i haven't found anything else that keeps him satisfied. I do supervise him and limit the amount of time chewing. Are these bad choices as well? Thanks
