Horizon Legacy (Grain Free)

Ok, after much humming and hawing,.....

To recap: I'd just finished the transition from Pro Plan to Orijen then Bacca got sick. He refused to touch the Orijen (I think he somehow associated that food with not feeling good).

So I switched the boys back to Pro Plan temporarily because I knew their stomachs could handle a quick switch back to that (adding canned food to Bacca's). He started to eat again, plus the meds seemed to be working as well.

Knowing that I did not want to stick with Pro Plan, and knowing that Bacca had an aversion to the Orijen, I did more research and went to the store today ready to buy Innova Evo. The store clerk was recommending Go! or Horizon Legacy instead (both of these are Canadian companies, like Orijen and Acana).

So I bought the Horizon. It's a little cheaper than the Orijen. I mixed a little into Bacca's Pro Plan/wet food mix and he lapped everything up.

Anybody else feeding Horizon Legacy? They advertise themselves as the next best thing to raw!

Mo Mo is having Horizon, he love this food, I think this is a very good brand name ! yes, this brand is from Canada, so it is much cheaper when we buy in Canada. After neutured on May 16 , Mo Mo eat double amount of horizon, seems love his kibbles very much!!

I have a thread on this just a couple down.. i only got 1 reply though...

But anyways,, ive had Boston and Squirt on a mix of this now for about 2 weeks or so,, and so far so good,, no loose stools from Boston,, which is his problem on Evo,, even after a month or more......... And ive been reading more on the stuff,, im surprised its not mentioned here more as it really seems to be the stuff ....

The funny thing i notice now is They lap it up fast,, as in they're cup or so of iam's would last a few hours b4 it would be gone,, this stuff go's so fast, i have to try to feed little squirt seperately somewhere else so he can get some,, unless he digs in at the same time...

ALso i noticed Horizons has a strong smell to it,, a really good wholesome smell,, im shure most high quality kibbles do,, but i find it to be very powerful for this stuff.. makes me hungry almost... lol

How much are you paying for it where its cheaper than Evo ? im paying the exact same price when i get it from Winnipeg,, so far the 1 bag i bought was $70 (cdn) 13 kilo.

Glad to here your pups like it Barb short of some weight concerns i have for my dogs, im happy they like this high quality feed..

I must have missed the thread...I was probably still Orijen fixated!

You are right at the odour being stronger. It was the same with the Orijen as well. But, as you said, it's a high quality smell. And the kibbles are denser than the Pro Plan, though not as dense as the Orijen.

I paid $25 for a 4k bag - so a little more than you paid, but for a smaller bag. And it was cheaper than the Evo. I think the Evo was something like $20 for 2.5k

I've been mixing it with hot water. 1) because the high level protein seems to demand more water; 2) it slows them down.

I also like the fact that it's Canadian made (us Hosers gotta stick together! )

Two days on the food, and everything functioning nicely! (Including two car trips back and forth to the cottage - no nasty vomiting; stools nice and firm)

I will have to evaluate how much I feed and may scale it back but since I'm still in transition, I'll wait.

p.s. Rassy - per your other thread, I sure hope you stick with us. Nothing wrong with differing viewpoints as long as its respectful. That is what keeps this forum so valuable
