Hot air balloons

Today at the park, early this morning the girls and I got to watch 7 hot air balloons overhead. I love seeing the balloons, but neither of the girls have ever been exposed. They just laid quietly on the grass, looking at them, didn't even bark as they floated over us. I don't think they knew quite what to do...I wish I could have captured their expressions. They did the head tilt thing, like what the heck are those things. It was cooler, no wind, lots of blue sky, sunny and just us at the park. If ever there was a kodak moment...sigh. (no phone or camera with me) I love springtime in the Rockies!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our first rescue flipped out and completely came unglued when she saw a hot air balloon taking off from the fairgrounds in back of our house one day. I would love to have seen the reaction of your crew. It sounds quite comical!

Urgh, hot air balloons, hate them. I have lots of them going over my place. Nothing worse than being woken up at 6am by all the dogs in the neighbourhood going berserk at the balloon burners. Sends my dogs wild too and it sets the tone for a stressed out day. It annoys me no end that they think it's okay to fly low over people's homes and wake everyone up. There is one company in particular that does it and it's so damn rude. We just came out of a 2 week balloon regatta - now that's a nightmare, 20 balloon burners going overhead. Blah.

I often get them as well....the dogs always flip out! The whoosh sound is makes them nuts! I must be right on the wind path because the fly over all the time!

We do not get them, but I know Shelby would go crazy. She goes crazy "protecting" us from the big black birds and the geese when they fly by.

I live one mile from the airport where the hot air balloons take off and land . . . they are beautiful but drive my dogs nuts!

They are so low over my house, I sometimes wonder if they will clear it :(. But my ever vigilant Shelties are on high alert, warning me of incoming hot air balloons . . .

When they fire the burners, my Shelties scramble into the safety of the house, to avoid the awful noise.

So, I guess I am saying that I am the only one who enjoys the balloons!

Considering how Layla acts whenever Marine One flies over, I'm sure she'd have a conniption if a hot air balloon appeared.

I think they are pretty and the girls didn't seem bothered just curious. Hey we are on the flight pattern-approach for Peterson AFB, and we get the big cargo jets flying in LOW, and those are NOT appreciated/tolerated by the girls or me. I keep wanting to scream PULL UP, too low dudes!!!!! They rattled and shake the house, the ground, and they are loud. But I do ENJOY the thunderbirds, which are worse, but I can't resist having pride when I see them. I love to see them come for AF graduation and do their fly overs for the Cadets/Academy. But see, I was married to AF-the best of the best :biggrin2:

One Saturday, about 10 years ago, my family was sitting in the breakfast room eating a late breakfast. Suddenly our border collie, who was outside in the back yard, slams herself into the back door. We were all kind of stunned, since she had never done this before. Scratched at the door to come in, yes, but never thrown her body into the door. We didn't even have to step outside to see what was bothering her. Sure enough, there was a hot air balloon out there. It must have lifted off in the big field near our neighborhood, because it was close enough to see over the roof of the people behind us. Poor Daisy... those things must be terrifying to dogs that notice them.

Missy is afraid of balloons in general.. and she didn't appreciate the people flying the model airplanes in the field next to the dog park. A couple years ago, some genius decided to project the football game on the wall during a flyball tournament. Missy ran down the lane like normal until she noticed the big projection on the wall, then she stopped to look at it, and ran back to me (without her ball). She certainly notices when things are "off". Or it's possible she's not a Texans fan.
