I have the AKC registration papers and the registration numbers for his parents. I've yet to register him but because he has limited registration I am not sure what the point would be to have him registered. Is there a way that I can find contact information for the breeder or just general info on his parents? We bought Buddha from a pet shop when we were on vacation so I never saw what his parents looked like and it would be nice to track them to see what they look like or if he has other siblings nearby.

wellllllllllll, registering him with the akc does the akc good, it supports them. As far as anything else, 99% of pet shop dogs are puppy mill dogs, meaning you will never see his parents, his sire and dam listed on the paperwork may not even in reality be his parents. They tend to copy info and make things up...By registering him you will not see pics of his sire/dam. They will just send you a 4 generation pedigree in the mail with their names listed...thats it..
I seee that's unfortunate I know that there is a high probability that he may be a puppy mill dog but in the off chance, there is no way to contact the breeder somehow or find out for sure if he did come from a puppy mill? If fake parents were used I could contact whoever is listed and they could just tell me no this dog did not come from us, or is that not the way it works? I guess what I'm trying to find is the contact information for whoever owns the parents of Buddha.

corbinam: I saw the post on pedigree lines on this forum which got me wondering about Buddha's parentage. I checked out the website and I just can't figure out how to do the search. Do I just type his sire or dam under quick search? Because I did that and nothing came up.
Also I just looked up the dog store we bought Buddha from, and remembered that they did tell us they get their puppies from local breeders in Texas. They only have 2 stores so it doesn't appear that it is a chain or anything. So that's why I'm thinking there must be a breeder out there I can contact somehow.

If your pup did indeed come from a commercial breeding facility (read: puppy mill), there is a high probability that all 4 generations of dogs are on that property. The names would be "Sammy 1" bred to "Pixie". In other words, the names are just that.
Registering your puppy with AKC allows you to do performance events. But more importantly, monies go to help fund canine health research, that benefits all dogs.

The first place to start is by registering and ordering the paper pedigree. Once oh have that, you can go from there. You can also get online research pedigrees through AKC, back 5 generations. We did that on our first dog. He had one whole Champion in 5 generations.
In all cases, regardless of where the dog came from, the pedigree is only as good as the integrity of the person registering the litter. We see this in the back of the Gazette every month.
