How do the titles/awards work?

Well, I am really muddled up with titles recently!!

I've been told that to get a Ch. title, a dog must get a certain number (I think 3) of challenge certificates from different shows.

So I had this misconception that a dog must win many many challenge certificates to be a Grand Ch. in a certain country. But no, I was told the dog had to win a BIS before it could actually be a Grand Ch

And then there's another part where the girls and the boys are split into two groups and judged, and inside here they have some Best bitch/dog award. The best from each gender then compete against each other, and the winner gets to represent the breed for the BOB awards.

But it's the judging amongst the genders that I am kind of confused with though. Does anyone have a clear explanation to how it works and what titles/awards are given throughout the show? I am kind of slower than most, so I hope this isn't a silly question!!

I noticed you are in singapore...I am not sure how their CH works there, but in the US with the AKC its a total of 15 points to be a CH and the 15 points must be 2 majors from different judges. To get the majors you have to beat a certain number of either dogs or bitches determined by region.. for example in the Northeast region you need atleast 9 dogs and 13 bitches to be a 3pt major..now we are running into problems around here because it has not been making majors...

Now the AKC GR CH I still dont understand the full workings of it, hopefully someone else can chime in on the nuances of it!

If I'm not wrong there are 3 categories within each of the dog and bitch groups: puppy up to 1 year of age, intermediate up to 3 years of age and anything above that is the open group.
