omg, Izabella (formerly hope) i took her out for her normal potty and brought her in, and felt something hard on her, i saw dirt spots, so i figured she had a bur stuck on her, and i pulled it off, washed her off, and she has this huge crater thing on her neck, there are two tiny holes like a vampire got her. wth is this? i have been washing it every day with iodine, and putting bacitracin on it. walgreens pharmacy said i can use a small amount of flea and tick shampoo that i did. she will be 7 weeks on tues. and she 3.6lbs now. i couldnt get out of bed today i had a migraine with vomiting. (dry heaving since i hadnt eaten anything yet, it took 7 excederin and 2 midrin to get it to finally ease up.). anyway what am i suppose to do? is this an immediate vet trip cuz i have to wait for my debit card to get here for my unemployment card, i have no way to access my money until that card gets here.

i dont know if this was a tick, i know something bit her with the 2 vampire looking holes. im assuming it was a tick? i have never had a dog that got a tick before. i dealt with baby kittens and i mean BABY, newborn with fleas, only thing i could do is dawn blue dishsoap. i found 1 flea on izabella i gave her a bath and checked her. im not really comfy using that little bit of flea and tick shampoo i used on her, i cant use advantix or anything until she is 8.8lbs.

ok what am i suppose to do? anything natural homedic i can do? do they make puppy treatments? how do i know if she has a tick or not? we so need a break here. I loe this little girl so much, she has been through too much already to keep going through this crap. i found a black looking bug thing on the clippiers when iw as trying to look around and her, it didnt look like a flea really, but it didnt have like4 claw looking things either. ok thanks again guys.

well the only cute thing i can even say at this point is she learned how to walk down the stairs, learned how to get up 1 stair. and is getting the cutest grey under her lip, like a mostache lol! she is also geting grey spots on her feet too.

no, if the birds would gotta here we woulda been at the er getting MAJOR stitches. can show you the pretty scar on my forehead from tht one.

something was stuck on here like hard and there several dirt spots. its 2 little holes right next to each other like a vampire would do, then whateveri pulled off of her it pulled a layer of sking off pretty deep, i mean not stitches deep, but there are litterally two deep tiny little holes in her neck. then there is one more mark right next to it. could fleas do bites that big in a puppy?? i saw some pretty bad flea bites on jake last summer before i got him on advantix, and even the the baby kittens they were really bad too. whatever mark is next to the bite doesnt have little holes.. darnit, i really hate to keep spending $65 a vet visit to go get told info that i dont know if i even believe or not. oh ya, not one seizure that little strange one.

i will tell you when i treated her neck and she cried, broke my heart, jake went ballistic barking, and skye my macaw came running into the bathroom when i was bathing her to check up on her too. wth man! maybe i can get some photos.

If it were a tick you wouldn't have gotten the blasted thing off very easily. Pulling em out with your fingers is darn near impossible.

The insects that bite dogs are ticks, fleas, bees, ants, centipedes, and spiders. Out of that list the only one that would leave 2 distinct teeth marks visible to the naked eye would likely be spiders.

Unfortunately Indiana seems to have a number of native spider species that are farily venomous. Brown Recluse, Black Widow, and Hobo Spider are all very poisonous. It's also possible for non native species to be found around due to them being "pets" to some people or also coming in on food shipments.

If it is a spider bite, you can call your vet and ask for some advice. Though I don't know what they will tell you if you are unable to identify what type of spider it was. (Future note, always store things you pull off your pup in a container until you are able to verify that no harm has come to your pup. I store all the ticks I pull off my pup just in case he gets sick and they need to know what he has)

You said it's been a few days since you noticed this bite, so if the skin around the wound looks fine (as in it's not discolored, or dying) then it's probably just a superficial wound and nothing to worry about.

The other thing that comes to mind that would leave 2 teeth marks would be a snake. You said you pulled what looked like "dirt" off your pup, could it have been dried blood? Most snakes aren't poisonous and they simply bite to defend themselves, or feed. The snakes that are poisonous... In North America there are 2 main types variations of "Pit Vipers" who's bites would cause the following symptoms "extreme restlessness, panting, drooling and weakness. They are followed by diarrhea, collapse, sometimes seizures, shock and. in severe cases, death."

And then there is the Coral Snake which causes the following symptoms "vomiting, diarrhea, urinary incontinence, paralysis, convulsions and coma."

Though many of these symptoms seem to mirror symptoms hope has previously had before the bite was ever seen.

Ticks don't usually leave 2 holes unless there were two of them. Fleas don't leave holes, usually welts and the trauma from the dog scratching the itch. Snakes poisonous ones can leave 2 punture holes but you would see massive tissue damage and swelling same with poisonous spiders. Non poisonous snakes usually don't leave those type of marks as they don't have fangs. Spiders can not be rule out.

A cat bite is a real possible cause. They can leave 1,2 ,3 or 4 puncture marks deep to superfical. The holes are about 1/2 in to 1in but it can vary based on if the fangs that made contact were on the top or bottom or on one side. The wounds can look ok at first and several days down the line become very infected. Other causes, a bite from your other dog(older dog disciples the pup), running into something, getting pinched in something, other insects. Really hard to know without seeing it. If the area is at all red or swollen get her in to the vet ASAP.

As a side note- read the label on any flea and tick shampoo you use carefully. Many/most are not labeled for use in puppies under 6 months and certainly 8wks. Adavntage, advantix and frontline can be use on pups smaller than 8.8lbs. But they must be atleast 7 or 8 wks old depending on the product you use. Just make sure you have the right size product for you dogs weight, that it is labeled for dog and puppies and that your pup meets the minimum age on the label. Many other over the counter flea and tick meds can not be use in pups younger than 4 to 6 months. Be careful. Seizures can be a result of improper use of flea and tick shampoos and dips and preventatives.

Last year my girlfriends toy poodle had little puncture holes. Over a 3 week period with them getting larger and oozing the 3rd vet new what it was. There is a fly that bite animals and lays it's eggs in the animal's skin and leaves a hole so when they hatch the larva can breath air to survive. By the time they found out what is was it was disgusting. The vet opened the sores and larva came squirting out with all kinds of pus. The poor thing had a severe infection from it and almost didn't survive. Get her to a vet. See if you can work out a later payment when you receive your debit card or if you can leave a post dated check. My vet is always happy to work with people.

boy someone sure cant ever get a break. i had some money go into my bank account today from paypal (stil waiting on unemployment debit card). thank god. she wasnt sure what the bit was from, she shaved her necked and looked inside, no ticks, she didnt see fly larvae, but said to keep watching it and if it swells to get in her in and if it doesnt start healing in a couple of days to watch for larvae to pop its head out (then nikki ends up passed out on the ground). i would have questioned my macaw, if there wouldnt have been dirt stuck on her, i pulled some hard thing off her that as stuck on her. well i figured while i was there i know the next thing is gonna be worms, so i figured better check, sure enough round worms. which means jake gets meds too. and hopefully i dont need meds. $112 later. good god. what did i get myself into. Jake was sick at the begainning he go his meds petland paid for and that is the only issue i have ever ever had. until now with the possibility of worms. well i have a massive migraine yet again, since its raining. belle needs to be 8 weeks old to get on any kind of flea or heart meds or have any kind of shots. i was gonna get them done for both dogs all at once with this dr in IL that i like that has great prices. well so much for that. the puncture holes look like a very deep cut. i have never left tony the macaw and belle left unattended cuz i know what he did to my forehead. i just keep going back and forth, today he jumped on her bin she was in and she squealed and i immedialty got him out of there cuz i was here and saw it and she wasnt harmed. so i really dont know what happened. she doesnt need stitches, i was borderline stitches, doc said i shoulda got them but it was too late. so i dont really know wht to think now. all i know is just like belle i really need a break from puppy problems. good god. so now i got 2 dogs on meds, and belle on the amoxi. she is happily playing with a tug toy. jake is crashed.

If these wounds are from a fly laying it's eggs and you wait to see larva peaking their heads out I hate to tell you Bella will probably be dead by than. As I told you my girlfriends poodle barely made it and the larva weren't peaking their little heads out checking on the neighbors. The wounds started. getting larger like a small bump or pimple. Than they started seeping puss and other clear liquid, the dog eventually got a severe respiratory infection, coughing, weezing etc. her dog was 2 yrs old and barely made it I would watch her very, very closely at her age she could take a turn for the worse if this is what it is very quickly. You may want to start adding puppy bac to her food again just to keep her immune system up so she is strong enough to fight this if this is the problem. i don't think it would hurt. Good luck I hope she is ok. We do know she's a fighter so you have that on your side.
