I didn't realize it would take this long...

for my rescue Sheltie to bond. I rescued her a year ago - she is 9, very shy, but a complete sweetheart. She finally trusts me and has become my shadow instead of hiding. She is still scared to death of small children - not sure why but is comfortable with me - finally! :)

I am glad to hear that your patience has paid off. I guess we just never know what these poor animals have gone through before they came to you. A lady I know, just had to put down her sheltie rescue, he was old, deaf and going blind - and as of late, he was reverting to being extremely scaired to the point of biting. She only had him two years. She said that when she got him, he was scaired, shy, filthy and was missing lots of fur. One can only imagine the abuse he suffered. He never really got over it, but he did become comfortable enough to wag his tail here and there.

My rescue sheltie has been with me 2 years now. When I brought him home I thought he would just fit right in and I could love on him and get a response. I was wrong and couldnt wait for the day he would look to me with love. Now well he is glued to my hip. I cant even go to the bathroom without company!...I love each and every minute I have. Its so great when THEY realize that They are HOME! It is truely heavenly !

Our vet once told me that Shelties are sometimes too smart for their own good. They have very long memories and it just took your fur friend along time to forget the hurt. Thank you for your patience and the good home for your elderly furball!

I have been wondering how you both were doing. It has been a while since I have seen any posts from you. I'm really glad that your girl has finally decided that she is home. It does take a while esp. when they are older. We have had our 7 year old girl Rasha for over a year and a half now and she is just now acting like she is part of our family. It just takes time and it sounds like you have done a great job with her! We would love to hear more about her. Please do share some of your stories and pics!

I know it's hard to wait and trust that love will come back instead of just going out. But Shelties are so bright and so sensitive. She'll never forget now that you love her because you never gave up!
